12:34am
I walk alongside the sea, far enough to not get tackled by the chilly water, but close enough to feel the breeze that surfed on top of it. This time, I wasn't staring into the pool of black, I was watching my feet sink into the sand with every step. It was mushy under my sandals, but it felt oddly good.
A car beep startled me from my thoughts, making my head whip up to the parking lot. Mingi's car was there already. He got out, and I started heading up to him, but he stopped me and grabbed my hand, pulling me back to where I had been before.
"Let's take a walk today," he says, fulling enclosing my cold hand inside of his.
I hum, agreeing with his idea. A walk was always nice. It was one of those things where it helped you breathe. Where you weren't on your phone (unless you were listening to music). Where you could just take in your surroundings.
"Did you know the Betta fish symbolizes strength, power, and unique individuality? The fish has a feisty and fierce nature, and because of that, they're often kept alone. It's known as the Siamese fighting fish," I state, more excited for Mingi to tell me his story. "I used to own a Betta fish. Best fish I ever had. He was blue and his scales were very pretty and sparkly. I miss him and his air bubbles."
Mingi chuckles, "what was his name?"
"It was Mist, but I always liked calling him Misty, even if it sounded like a girl's name."
"Why that name?" He wondered to me.
"Well, mist is like fog. When it's around, you can't really see anything. I had gotten him at a time where I wasn't really at my best. I had a few mental issues, none diagnosed by a doctor, but I knew something was wrong. Because of my love for fish, my mom got him for me. He made me happy. He helped hide away my anxiety. He clouded it, like mist would. It was either Mist or Bubbles, so..." I scratched the back of my neck with an embarrassed smile.
How could a damn fish help me with my issues? No clue. Don't judge me.
"That's sweet, I like that," he responds, glancing toward me with a grin.
I nod, happy that he didn't make fun of me for it. It's not easy to admit those kinds of things. Most of my friends didn't even know.
"Did you know there's a constellation called Ursa Major and Minor? The greater and lesser bears. It's the most known constellation because they're also known as the big dipper and little dipper," Mingi states, stopping our walk to look at me and point to the sky. He easily pointed out the big and little dipper.
"That's so cool," I whisper, mesmerized by how many different names that constellation had.
"The story of it is that there was a Princess of Arcadia named Callisto. Zeus fell in love with her and so they did the dirty and she gave birth to Arcas-"
"Wait! Wait, Zeus fell in love with her?" I question and he nods. "But what about Europa? And that girl that gave birth to the twins? I swear he's a damn hoe."
The redhead laughs, "I know, I know. I'm not really sure why he fell in love with so many women. I think one of the girls was just courted though, he didn't fall in love. Anyway, back to the story. Arcas was born. Another queen, Queen of the Gods, Hera, got jealous and unleashed her wrath by turning Callisto into a bear, doomed to walk the forests forever. Years later, when Arcas was hunting, Queen Hera brought Callisto to Arcas as prey. When he was going to kill her, Zeus saved the day and sent Callisto to the heavens, where she became Ursa Major, or the Big Dipper. Later after that, the King of the Gods put Arcas in the sky to be forever known as Ursa Minor, the lesser bear or little dipper. It reunited mother and son."
