Deception of the Heart

Chapter 8

Kate stayed up very late that night,she couldn't help but wonder who the woman was that answered Alex's phone. She sat on her bed with her phone in her hand pressing it against her forehead with her eyes closed until she got up and started pacing in her room, contemplating whether or not she should call him back... Who is this woman!what if she picks up the phone again?.........Screw it I'm gonna call him!

The phone rang a few  times without an answer,just when Kate was about to hang up, Alex picked up.

"Hello?"

"Hey Al....it's Kate, how are you?" Kate asked as she kept pacing the room

"Umm...I've been good El, how've you been?"

"Actually I've been thinking....I mean...when we met the other day...aaaah...it's was great Alex!, it truly was, I missed you more than I knew, seeing you made me wonder, what things would be like if we... you know.... hadn't separated...maybe If I had tried harder to understand, to try to make us work then things would have been different...thinking back I realized that I should have respected your decision to follow your dreams and not be selfish about it.....I should have stayed by you no matter what, but you must know that we were younger and....I guess what I'm trying to say is...  I think we might have a better chance at making things..."

"Hey Al, where's the wine opener"? Female voice interrupted

"Umm..ahh... I think it's in the top drawer next to the refrigerator" he replied.

Kate stopped talking as soon as she heard the woman's voice in the back ground.

"Did I catch you at a bad time?"

"You kinda did, but I wanna hear what you were saying, I can spare a few more minutes"

"Naaa it's ok, I think it's best I don't. "

"Ka...."

Before Alex could say what he had to say, Kate hung up.

Kate was so furious, she kept pacing the room  but now even faster than before.
I dont get him! Does he think this is a game? He has some other woman living with him, yet hes telling me that he loves me and sending me letters!...She called him back...

"Kate...what hap......"

You know what it's not ok!!! I don't get you! You told me all these things in your letter about you missing me, and still loving me! You even kissed me! And all this time you've been living with a woman! Is she why you moved closer to town? And you know what's even worse, I called you! poured my heart out! and even wanted us to try again! even after I called you and she answered the phone I was stupid enough to call you back just to hear her once again. You don't know how mu...."

"Kate stop!!" Alex interrupted

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Jenny is here with me, she's been helping me to unpack and settle in since I got here"

"Jenny? That was Jenny as in your sister Jenny?"Kate asked.

"Yes Jenny as in my sister Jenny, and you know I love you,nothing has changed, if you want us to try again, there's nothing that would make me happier, now can you please calm down?" Alex laughed.

"I'm sorry" Kate said, covering her face with one hand, quite embarrassed yet slightly chuckling about how ridiculous she realized she must have seemed.

"I.. didn't kn...

" I know, Alex said" she could hear the warmth and the smile in his voice.

" I love you Kate Elliandra Bromswell".

" I love you too" she replied with the widest smile she has ever made in years."

"Do I need to send the fire brigade to you?  Cause whew!! You almost burned my ear off, I forgot how fiesty you could be" Alex said, laughing.

Kate laughed as well " there's no need now, you already put the fire out, thankfully.

Alex Laughed again, " firefighter Alex at your service ma' lady"

Kate laughed even harder, that moment reminded her of how crazy, extremely dramatic and funny Alex could be, and she looked forward to having plenty more of those moments with him.

"I'll call you tomorrow...Love"

"I look forward to it"

Kate then fell on her bed, with a beeming grin on her face, resting the phone on her chest, holding it close as though it was him she was holding....Love? I've missed that...to her it seemed as though everything was perfect, she wished to stay in that moment for as long as she could, but then her phone rang.

Incoming call: Tim Haddrick....
