The Jellicle junkyard was home to many different cats, all with their own personalities and different views on everything.

Obviously, such diverse thoughts led to disagreements and fights, but because of how close the tribe was to each other there was also a very high chance a cat would find someone with the same interests and quirks as them.

It was a relatively warm day, and a cool breeze was blowing. "Your fur has gone all ruffled." Alonzo said, laughing. The young queen in front of him began to pat her fur down, a smile on her face.

"This happens every time the wind blows on me. I don't know why I bother." Y/N said, laughing. "You're very lucky. Your fur doesn't seem to do that." She smiled, looking Alonzo up and down.

"No, I guess it doesn't." He said, smiling. "It's awfully smooth and shiny, too. I wish I had fur as perfect as yours." Y/N said, watching as his cheeks turn slightly red. "Thank you." He laughed. "But nothing could compare to the colour of yours. It's amazing."

"Eh." Y/N shrugged, scrunching her nose. The two cats simply stared at each other for a while, before Alonzo exclaimed "Look sharp." And pointed his paw at something behind her.

Y/N wheeled round, then let out a breath she didn't know she was holding when the junkyard was empty. "What?" Y/N asked, turning back to Alonzo.

"It was... Oh never mind." He muttered, shrugging. The two cats fell silent, Y/N wondering what or who Alonzo saw. "Oh, he's back." Alonzo sighed, pointing behind Y/N once again.

Y/N turned around to the face of a very angry looking tom. "Hello Tugger." Y/N chirped brightly, smiling. He didn't reply, but gave Y/N and then Alonzo a steely glare. Suddenly, he Rum Tum Tugger leapt forwards towards Alonzo, and grabbed him by the scruff of his neck.

"Go away." Tugger snarled through gritted teeth. If Y/N wasn't frozen with shock, she'd have found this rather funny. He let Alonzo go, and he scampered away, massaging his neck. "What did you do that for?" Y/N asked, trying not to sound angry.

"I saw what you two were doing." He said, heatedly, standing up straighter so that he seemed taller. "We were just talking." Y/N protested, crossing her arms. "Of course. Don't try and kid me, Y/N. I heard it all. You were flirting with him." Tugger said.

"Don't even try and deny it." He added sharply as Y/N opened her mouth to object again. "Look, why in the name of the everlasting cat are you so mad at me? I'm allowed to talk to other cats!" She said, anger beginning to rise up inside of her like fire. "I know that, but-" Y/N cut the increasingly desperate tom off again.

"And you do it all the time, so we're even." She continued. "Why does it matter so much?" She added. Tuggers' raging confidence seemed to fade, and he was left looking at his feet in despair. Y/N waited for a while, staring at him, waiting hopelessly for an answer. He didn't reply for a while, and when he did his eyes were still glued to the floor as if it was suddenly very fascinating, even more so than the attractive young queen in front of him.

"Look, you're mine. You're my mate, I love you more than words can describe. I don't want to lose you to other toms. You're all I have, I don't want you to go falling for someone else just because they said you had a nice tail or something."

He paused for a moment, then carried on. "And you're just so beautiful, so perfect... I know it sounds corny but I just want to hold your perfect body in my arms forever... I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really don't want to let you go. Not yet. And although you might not feel the same, I think we have a pretty bright future together."

Y/N was touched by these words, almost to tears. She'd never really heard her mate speak in this way, and it was honestly quite attractive in it's own special way. "But sometimes I just want to talk to other toms. I love you too, and I'm not going to leave you anytime soon, but please, just at least let me have a conversation with someone else of the opposite gender."

Y/N said, feeling slightly guilty but carrying on nevertheless. "You have your reasons, but loosen up just a little." She said, placing a paw on Tuggers' cheek. "I'm sorry. I guess I've been overeacting a little... But promise me you're not going to run off with someone else just for the sake of it. I'm honestly..."

He added something almost soundless, and it was indecipherable. "Sorry?" Y/N asked as softly as she could, feeling slightly remorseful. "I'm honestly quite scared to lose you. You're pretty much all that's keeping me going since Old Deut passed... I mean, if you want to break up or somethin' then that's fine, that's your choice, but-"

Y/N cut him off yet again. "Break up? Sweetheart, why would I want to break up with you? You're the best thing that has ever happened to me. Sure, you're annoying sometimes, but so am I, I guess..." She said, smiling sheepishly at the end.

Tugger forced a laugh and looked at his mate fondly, and blushed slightly as she kissed him softly. As she pulled away, the tom pulled her into a hug and closed his eyes. "I often wonder how you put up with me on a daily basis." He whispered, earning a small laugh from Y/N.

"It's a bonus." She said, somehow forgetting everything negative that had happened between the couple in the past.
