The Jellicle ball. It was definitely the best time of the year. Not only was it an exciting opportunity to get to know the rest of the tribe better, but it was also a show of talent, not only in song, but in dance.

I probably always look forward to the ball a lot more than other cats. For one reason, I absolutely love dancing, anything dance related will get me on my feet immediately. Even the very talk of dance makes me bounce excitedly.

But also, it lets me appreciate the true talent of Victoria. The young white kitten always catches my eye. Being the same age as her, we get along very well, but I don't think she knows how I really feel about her.

She's just so beautiful, and when she dances Victoria expresses such grace and elegance... It's hard to explain how amazing she is unless you see her firsthand.

"Earth to Y/N... Oi!" The sound of my name snapped me from my daydream as I looked up into the eyes of the exact kitten I was just thinking about.

"Hey Vicky." I greeted her, standing up from the car I had been sitting on. "Hey." She replied quickly. "It's almost time for the ball!" She squealed excitedly, bouncing up and down.

I jumped off the car quickly and looked up to the sky. The Jellicle moon was shining brightly from in front of a cloud, while the rest of the sky was scattered with stars over a navy-blue sky.

"Come on!" Victoria urged, grabbing my paw and pulling me along, away from my trance in the sky. We ran through the junkyard; a sea of rusting cars and abandoned human equipment.

Other cats were making their way to the clearing we were going to, talking animatiedly to each other. I tried to catch words of their conversations because I didn't actually know that much about these ball things, but Victoria was running too fast.

Eventually, lots of other cats arrived, and I started to talk to Tumblebrutus, who I was very close with. Victoria left to talk to Etcetera, and I starred at the spot she moved away from for quite some time.

"Hey, you alright?" Tumblebrutus asked, looking at me in worry. "Yeah. Yeah, fine." I reassured him, looking away. "Look, if you don't tell her soon, someone else might get there first." I looked at him and raised an eyebrow.

The bad thing about pooring your heart out and all your secrets into someone was they know everything about you, just like Tumble knew all about my little crush on Victoria.

I looked back at Victoria, who was laughing with Etcetera quite a few meters away. "I mean, come on. How long have you known her-" "Tonight." I cut him off.

"Yeah, see I knew you'd say that. The thing is - wait, what?" He asked, furrowing his brow. "I'm going to tell her tonight." I repeated, waiting for his reaction. "Really? Wow! Good luck, mate."

Even when Old Deuteronomy arrived, I didn't stop thinking over my plan to tell Victoria my feelings. As the night progressed, so did my nerves. Every now and then I'd tell myself it was a stupid idea, and she'd never like me back.

But then I remembered there was a small chance she did like me, and that got me on my feet again. The night was amazing. I learnt so much more about dancing, and picked up a few more moves from the older cats.

However, after quite a lot of dancing, the other cats dispersed quite suddenly for some reason, leaving Victoria. I hid myself behind a rusting car, so that my head was just poking out behind her.

She looked around for a few seconds, at which point I ducked, but then after I thought it was safe, looked back at her again. She turned round in a circle, making sure no-one else was there.

I was lucky she didn't acknowledge my presence. Then she started to lift her leg up, until it was very nearly vertical to her body. She held that position for a few seconds, then quickly put her leg down.

What she did next really surprised me. She looked like she was yawning, but then went into the splits. It looked way more impressive than I can possibly describe.

Damn, she was flexible. Then she led on her side and stretched. She carefully stood back up and looked to the sky. Okay, now was the time to make a move.

Trying my best to ignore my increasing heart rate, I crept forwards towards her. Come on... I thought desperately as I took another wary step.

She must have heard something, or saw me out of the corner of her eye, because she snapped her head towards me very suddenly when I was about halfway.

"Hi, Vicky." I said quietly, my voice quivering with nerves. "Y/N!" She exclaimed. "Vicky, I've got to talk to you about something."

She leant her head to the side, waiting fot an explanation. It's time. "Look, I uh... Well, you see, I kinda... No no no. For quite a while I've..." Telling her was proving very difficult indeed.

I felt my cheeks heat up and I scrambled desperately through my mind to find another way to word what I was trying to say. So far I'd only managed to utter strings of sentences. It was like the words just weren't forming in my mouth properly.

"Ok, what I'm trying to say is..." I broke off and took a deep breath. The other cats would probably be back any minute. I had to do this now. "I... Um... I like you." Bam. The truth was out. She looked taken aback at this remark, and blinked a few times, her cheeks turning pink. 

"Oh, um..." She started, too flustered to speak properly. "It's ok... It was silly of me." I apologised, trying to keep my voice free from supressed emotion. I had a sneaking suspision I was failing miserably, however.

"No!" She exclaimed as I slowly turned away. I turned back, her eyes staring into mine. She broke the gaze and looked to the ground. "I... okay, this is quite cheesy and stuff, but I like you too." She confessed, looking back up.

"What?" I questioned, furrowing my brow. "Did... Did I hear you alright?" I asked in disbelief. "I like you too." She repeated again quietly. 

I smiled, and she did too. This felt weird. I swiftly hugged her, more in shock than anything else. She hugged me back, and I purred quietly against her headfur. 

Maybe this night was going to be even better than I expected.
