Flashes of images shot through Y/N's mind like lightning. Everything seemed distorted, echoed... She could hear screaming, shouting, and a whispering in her ear. Everything was like smoke. Swirling, Y/N tried to make out one of the images – or was it a memory? – But it flew away from her reach and slipped through her paws.

Suddenly, everything cleared. Y/N was stood on a concrete floor, and the sun was behind the clouds. There was a searing pain in her chest; everything was dark and gloom; but then suddenly, a light seemed to shine in the distance. She ran towards it, it was her only hope – a figure came into view, she quickened her pace, she had to get there... Something was driving her forward...

Y/N threw her arms around the young tuxedo cat, willing, begging for him to help her get out of here. But in the moment, he had disappeared, she was simply hugging herself. Y/N fell to her knees; the memories, screams and shouts came flooding back...

Make it stop. She thought desperately. Make it stop. Y/N clutched her head in agony. MAKE IT STOP! Everything ended and Y/N shot up, reality slowly spinning back. It was just a dream. It took a moment for everything to fall into place, her brain felt slow, Y/N felt dizzy and sick... It'd felt so real...

Steadying herself, Y/N attempted to calm her rapid breathing and wiped the cold sweat from her forehead. She glanced at her mate, Misto, who was sleeping peacefully beside her. Y/N brushed away the hot tears that were beginning to form at the corner of her eyes and took to looking around the room.

It was the same old den she'd always known and loved. Everything was in place. Y/N pinched herself. Yep, this was certainly reality. Although, pain is just a signal sent from the brain, so she could still be in a dream, a simulation...

Cursing under her breath and slipping out of bed, Y/N shook the thoughts from her mind. Almost like a robot, she walked out of the house into the night. The cool breeze blowing through the night felt refreshing and other-worldly on her skin, it was a great relief to get somewhere where she could actually breathe.

Seemingly automatically, Y/N strode through the Jellicle Junkyard, being bombarded by disturbing thoughts regarding the nightmare. After a bit of wandering around in deep thought, Y/N jumped up onto a collapsing brick wall and hugged her knees. Once again trying to shake unwelcome thoughts from her head, Y/N looked up to the cloudless sky.

The moon shone as brightly as ever, and the stars glittered happily beside it in their canvas of navy sky. "Looks so peaceful up there..." Y/N whispered, her eyes reflecting the moon almost perfectly. "Hey Y/N, are you ok?" The sound of her name made Y/N wheel around, and she watched tentatively as Misto jumped up onto the wall beside her.

"What's wrong?" He asked, putting a protective arm around her. Y/N thought about lying, but then realised there was really no point. What was there to hide anyway? "I had a nightmare." Y/N said flatly. Misto shuffled closer.

"A nightmare? What about?" He questioned, looking at Y/N closely. "I-I... I'm not even sure. There were images, flashes of images, memories... And then I saw you – I tried to run to you, there was a pain, a pain in my chest, I tried t-to hug you... You disappeared. And then..." Y/N stopped, biting her lip.

"And then everything came back. Screaming, shouting... I cried for it to stop, but it didn't, t-then I woke up..." Y/N buried her head in Misto's chest and he stroked her head gently. Y/N felt... Childish. She knew full well that it was just a dream, that none of it was in the slightest way real, but that didn't stop it feeling real.

"Hey, it's alright." Misto comforted her, placing a kiss on her head. "Look at me, Y/N," He smiled, and she did, sniffing quietly. "Whatever you dreamt up in there," He pointed in the direction of their den, "Isn't real out here. No-one's going to hurt you, I'm not going to disappear, nothing's going to happen to you. Not whilst I'm here. Alright?" Misto said, using his thumbs to wipe away the tears now cascading down his mate's cheeks.

Y/N nodded slowly, then proceeded to hug him. "T-Thanks you." Y/N sniffed, and Misto smiled softly. "Anytime, Y/N. I'm here for the long run, ok?" "Alright."
