Her hands shook violently despite the confident expression on her face. Her eyes stared down the long corridor as she thought over what she had to do.
"....17...16....15...."
'Run. You just have to be one of the first ones at the finish line.'
"....14...."
Easier said than done, but she was ready. They had trained her for this day. She knew what she had to do.
"......13.....12.....11...."

Time seemed to slow as the lady's voice closer to one. She looked across the mass of children to her only friend. He looked at her with reassuring eyes even with sweat dripping down his face and the nervous smile he tried to force down.
"...6....5....4..."

Her eyes darted forward, focused down the hallway as the last numbers were being recited.
"....3...2...1..."

Everyone bolted down the hallway. Her eyes looking only forward. Her stomach dropped as she heard a chorus of screams behind her, but she refused to take a glance behind. She pushed herself faster as she heard the girl beside pushed back with a jolt and a startling scream.

Her heart was racing beyond belief as she saw what was the cause.

Hands. Robotic, metal hands had swooped down and smashed the girl against the wall. Jean wanted to stop. To see if she could help. To see if was okay. But she knew she couldn't. The crunch that echoed through her ears as the girl's back met the concrete wall was her answer.

Jean could feel her eyes water as a boy in front of her was grabbed by the neck and lifted off the floor. His face was stricken in horror as he tried to scream but his voice was literally caught in his throat. Silver fingers tightened around his neck as a crimson liquid started trickling on to the white tiles. Jean could only look up in fear as he slowly bled out. His body was becoming limp as the his hands hung at each side of his body. it was like squeezing the pulp out of a lemon.

Suddenly the hands loosened their grip and through him carelessly down the corridor.

Jean had been so horrified by what she had saw, that she barely saw a mechanic hand charging toward her at an unfathomable rate.

A scream ripped from her throat as she woke up.
