"Yeah... The Changing. Minho didn't tell you?" He asked, slightly surprised.
Jean shook her head in response.
"Slinthead... For crying out loud, he had one job." Newt muttered under his breath, letting a soft sigh escape his lips.
Jean scratched the back of her neck sheepishly and softly asked him what it was.
"Let's see..." He started,"When you ran out into the maze and met the Grievers, you were stung. There's something...weird about the Grievers. When you're stung, you either die or gain a bit of your memory back."

The last part intrigued Jean to no end. The visions she had while she was passed out were her life before she was trapped here?

Compelled to know more, she looked at Newt, silently egging him to go on. He glanced at her and nodded with a chuckle.
"Don't get any ideas because trust me, love, it's not as great as it seems. Though I'm guessing you already know that."

A frown creeped on his face as he went on "If the unfortunate shank is able to get the serum in time, they've successfully dodged death. But then they won't wake up for a couple if days. Those couple of days are the worst anyone here to endure. Their screams and cries are always echoing through the Glade till they wake up again. Even then, they're never the same."

Jean's undivided attention was on only Newt. The first question of many was "What happens to them?"
Newt shrugged, "They change. Simple as that. Not the same shank anymore. Won't talk to anyone really."
"Has anyone ever told you about what they saw?"
"Nah. Basically all we know right now is we were sent here by people. 'The Creators' we like to call them. Always watching what we're doing. We don't know why though."
"How'd you create the serum?"
Newt laughed, "We didn't. It comes in the box along with some supplies. In a syringe and ready to use. You sure ask a lot of questions, Greenie."

Jean lightly pouted and crossed her arms before apologising.

"Nah don't worry about it. Let's go get something to eat before lights out."

They stood up and brushed themselves off. They walked till they saw the opening leading to the rest of the Glade,

In the very center, a huge bonfire was dancing with the evening breeze as everyone laughed and ate together. Meat and such were being served at a picnic table, Frypan cutting and handing the food out to the boys.
"Hey Greenie. Newt. Come join us. The runners should be back soon so we can fully celebrate!" A boy yelled, motioning them over to the crowd.

Jean yelled over the noise to Newt. "Celebrate what?"
Newt grinned and replied "Why celebrate our new Glader, of course. Welcome to the Glade, Shank. Glad to have you here."

Just like the boy said, the Runners had come back a little while before the Walls closed for the night.

Everyone was laughing, some guys were even banging on some makeshift drums to which almost everyone was dancing to. The more Jean seemed to open up, the more welcomed and at home she truly felt. It was the best night she remembered ever having.
