Chapter 3

A firm knock came from the door and a pair of tiny feet thumped through the claustrophobic apartment. The little girl hid behind her mother's legs with tears in her big hazel eyes and a pout on her lips.

Her mother opened the door and warmly welcomed their guests. They were two men, both heavily armoured behind gas masks and surgical gloves.

I don't wanna go though momma.

It's okay baby. You're gonna be a superhero, remember?

Yeah but still. You can come, can't you?

Mommy needs to take care of Nathan,.

The little girl sniffled and nodded.

I love you baby.

I love you too mommy.

The two shared one last hug before the girl walked over to the two men.

The girl had found herself in a room with about a hundred or so children about her age- yet she still felt so isolated. They all sat facing a giant screen at the front of the room.

The screen flashed and a middle-aged woman with blonde eyes and blue eyes appeared.

Welcome. It's a pleasure to have you all. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Chancellor Paige, the leader of the World In Catastrophe Killzone Experiment Department.

As you might all know, the world is in the brink of extinction. The flare has taken the sanity and lives of nearly the entire human race. Things aren't looking up at all. That's why we exist. Why you're all here. You will be the key to the resurrection of Earth as we once knew it. For the next years, we'll be training and observing you. Each piece of information we collect from you will help us in finding the Cure. Hard work and sacrifice will be necessary in order to make this work. But we, I, have no doubt in your ability to helping us. With that being said, I am proud to announce that phase one of the Trials has now officially begun.
