Chapter 17
Chie waited for everyone to settle down.
When she got the team's complete attention, she began to speak.
“Our designated hotel for the weekend is called “Happy Beach” which is the beautiful hotel standing right behind me."
Jad laughed out loud when he heard Chie mispronounce the word “Beach” and everyone joined in.
Chie’s left eye brow almost jumped off her face to give Jad an upper cut but the pretty receptionist kept her cool. When the laughter died down, she resumed her speech.
“Meet me at the lobby. Your room information and keys are with me. I already checked you in and I already took care of your registration. Also, I have your pocket money with me. I will give them to you along with your room keys.”
Before the team could react, Miles took over the floor and gave her speech.
“Now, kids. Listen closely. You represent Channel 17 in all your transactions here in Boracay so I advise that you represent the company well. This is a privilege. You can say thank you and express your gratitude to our CEO by behaving extremely well. Our team is one of the best departments in the network so I would need you to”
“Represent!” Jad cut off Miles as he raised his fist like a patriotic rebel in protest.
Miles shook her head in resignation while Chie gave Jad another hard look before turning around to head to the hotel lobby.
There were ten people in their group and they were paired up evenly.
Jad and Bobby would take Room #20, Miles and Val would be in Room # 22 and two other pairs of research analysts would occupy Rooms #24 and #26.
Chie would be roommates with another young research analyst named Tricia in #Room 28.
Room #30 was not occupied but there was a sign hanging on the door knob that said RESERVED.
Bobby followed Jad along the second floor hallway of Happy Beach.
It was not a typical hotel.
There were only three floors including the reception area downstairs and a tennis court upstairs. The entire hotel had dark, polished wooden floors and warm colored rugs that gave the team's weekend home away from home a cozy, homey ambience.
The hallway led to several wide patios overlooking the beach, some connected to the suites.
Bobby liked the way the hotel was built.
It was not enclosed. Except for the guest suites, most of the areas were open-air so the shouts and festivities happening by the beach can be heard in the hallway and the refreshing, cool breeze could be felt in the patios and the waiting areas.
Bobby put his room key in his pocket as he followed Jad inside their room.
Their suite also had polished wooden floors with warm colored area rugs scattered tastefully in different spots. Two freshly made queen beds sat side by side, separated by a night desk and a glowing lamp on top.
Jad put his luggages neatly by the wall on his side of the room and began digging for his clothes and bathroom effects.
“It’s almost one o’clock in the afternoon dude. We have to get ready. Time is limited. We’ll have a quick lunch downstairs with the team and then we can hit the beach. Oh yeah.” Jad told Bobby as he strutted his way to the bath room.
Bobby took out his clothes from his gym bag as well as his flint-colored flip flops. He took off his socks and shoes and put them neatly in a laundry bag on his side of the closet.
Their room was connected to a patio by the window.
Bobby walked to the window and opened the sliding glass doors next to it. He stepped outside and looked around the beach area as far as his eyes could see.
The view of the beach from their room was breathtaking.
He could see the clear blue waters, the white sands and a host of tanned bodies walking around in their swimsuits. The sound of the waters breaking, kissing the shores was like soothing music to his ears.
“Are you going to use the bath room? C’mon Bobby. Let’s go, man. Gotta meet up with the team at the lobby. We gots to go bro.”
Bobby turned around to look at Jad.
He blinked his eyes several times, wondering if he should jump out of the patio and run for his life or collapse on the floor laughing.
