Chapter 18

Jad stood frozen in front of Bobby, wondering why the younger man was staring at him.

Bobby's face was all red.

“What?” Jad finally asked.

Bobby pointed at Jad’s legs before bursting into laughter.

Jad grinned when he saw what Bobby was laughing about.  He slowly covered his board shorts with his beach towel and hurried back to the bathroom.

When he came out ten minutes later, he was wearing a pair of knee-length coral blue board shorts and a sleeveless white top.

Jad noticed Bobby had already composed himself as if nothing happened.  The research analyst then meticulously threw the incriminating white board shorts inside his hamper, kicking his closet door shut.

Jad could not believe he put on his flimsy, see-through, white board shorts without wearing his Speedos inside.

Thank goodness, there was only Bobby to witness his embarrassing stunt.

What would have he done had the girls seen him first?   That would definitely be a nightmare.

He hoped Bobby would not tell on him.

“Well, excuse me. Sorry, pare. I didn’t think I could be that forgetful.” Jad said to break the silence.

Bobby shook his head as he stood up from the bed to go to the bathroom.

“No problem, man. It happens.”

As soon as Bobby emerged from the bathroom, Jad called the front desk to ask if the whole team was already at the lobby.  When the receptionist said yes, both men dashed out of the room to head to their meeting place.

As the two men joined the entire team at the lobby, Miles told everyone to walk to the nearest seafood restaurant by the hotel.

The restaurant was called Blue Fin.

It was a small area by the beach with half a dozen open small huts with wooden tables and benches inside.  One hut could accommodate only six diners so the team reserved two huts sitting next to each other.

Chie and Trish looked at the menu while Val and Miles talked to the waiters.

A few minutes later, platter after platter of delicious seafood dishes were delivered to their huts.

There were boiled crabs and prawns seasoned to perfection, fried shrimps, crab cakes, adobong pusit (squid), calamari, baked and fried tilapia and tuna sisig.  There were also enselada with red eggs and diced tomatoes, a variety of eggplant dishes, pinakbet, pancit canton and two big pots of steamed white rice.  The pitchers of ice cold tea set in the middle of the tables glimmered in the soft sunlight.

As everyone dug in to enjoy the feast, Chie and Val enjoyed people watching.

Hanging out in one of the huts was a group of young men in their 20’s, having a good time rating the women who were passing by.  Judging from their conversation, none of them had seen a perfect 10 yet.

When Miles, Chie, Val and Trish walked past the young men’s hut half an hour ago, Bobby and Jad heard the men whisper among each other as they gave the four women a score of 9.5.

Bobby wondered how Jelly Anne would react when she found out she was being judged based on her appearance.

Bobby thought the actress was a 10 appearance-wise but when it came to her attitude, he would have given her a 3.

“Who wants to go island-hopping, banana boat-riding and cave-exploring with me?”

Chie asked everyone after they finished eating.

“I don’t think we’ll have enough time to do that today.  It’s almost 4pm.  It will start getting dark soon.  Why don’t we just do all that tomorrow when the Happy Gang people come over to join us?  That would give us more time to enjoy all those activities.” Val suggested to the team while spritzing a generous amount of Evian Mineral Water Spray on her face.

“Right.  That’s a good idea.  Let’s enjoy the beach for now.  Have a massage, take a dip.  Just enjoy the waters.  We can explore the island tomorrow.  We can go as a group or we can go with our buddies.  Remember, you are responsible for your roommate-buddy the whole entire trip.  If one of you gets drunk, the other person has to be sober.  Do not hesitate to ask for help and do not go with strangers if you have no one with you.  Be responsible.  Be safe.  Be smart.  You know what I mean, right?” Miles said as she set the ground rules.

“Sounds good to me.” Jad said.

Bobby planned to hang around Jad the entire trip since he’s just an add-on, anyway.

As if reading his mind, Miles turned to ask Bobby.

“Bobby, do you have any preference?  You’re part of the team, okay?  Don’t think you can’t say anything.  We’re pretty liberal here.”

Bobby smiled and just nodded, grateful for the team’s exceptional kindness to him.

“Thanks po.  I’m okay lang.  Anything is fine.” Bobby said.

“Okay.  Over here, no one uses po and opo.  We’re all in our 20’s.  No one is older or younger.  You know what I mean?”  Miles smiled broadly as she addressed Bobby.

“Right.  Got it.”  Bobby said enthusiastically.

As they headed out of the hut, Bobby noticed a little girl staring at him from the corner of his eye.

When he turned around to look at the girl, she had already turned her back on him.

The little girl, who was almost the same age as his little sister Garret, glanced back at Bobby before she started walking away with a group of older women in colorful swimsuits.
