Jungkook stepped out of his apartment, with his backpack hanging over one shoulder and sleepiness carved on his face. He couldn’t get used to waking up early in the morning in the slightest.“Hey.”
Jungkook jolted by his startle at Taehyung’s voice. “Jeez, stop scaring me like that.”
“I’m sorry,” Taehyung chuckled. “Are you okay?”
“Yes. You?”
“Not really, but I will be... after I talk with Youngjae.”
“I hope it goes well so we can... spend more time together.”
Taehyung grimaced playfully at the recognition of teasing in his voice. “Shut up.”
They began sauntering towards the company in comfortable silence, their hands brushing against each other often.
Jungkook perceived how Taehyung glanced at him on repeat, as if he wanted to say something, but he didn’t. So Jungkook bumped his shoulder lightly. “What?”
“What?”
“You’re glancing nonstop. You have something to say.”
Taehyung sighed. “I hate that you know everything.”
“Tell me.”
“Do you remember that night at the party?”
“Which one?”
“The first party. The day we met. When we were in the garden.”
“Oh. Yeah. You were so weird that night.”
“Yes, I was, but that’s not the point. You said you can tell I never do something just because and that there’s always a reason. That I’m always prepared, always with an answer, always defensive. And that it’s not common for someone like me to space out so easily.”
“I can’t believe you actually remember what we said that day,” Jungkook uttered with a notion of surprise.
“I remember it because even though I said maybe you’re wrong, you were right.”
“Are you telling me this to prove that you’re a liar?”
“No!” Taehyung scoffed. “I’ve just been thinking about some of the things you've said to me before. And this still surprises me. That you could figure it out so fast.”
“Well, the truth is, I took a wild guess. I wasn’t sure if I was right or wrong. I just had that feeling and after almost two months, I found out I was right.”
“You were,” Taehyung admitted with a soft smile. “I guess I’m saying this now because I feel like you get me, you know? I feel like you can read me so easily and sometimes it’s kind of scary. But it helps me a lot, Kook. You help me a lot.”
A warmth scattered around Jungkook’s chest as he viewed him fondly. “That’s nice to know. But I don’t get you most of the time. And especially in the past. You were confusing me all the time. It was so frustrating, and I won’t lie. I wanted to punch you multiple times. There are a lot of things you did and still do that I don’t get. I do know you, but there are times when I feel like I don’t. Because you don’t open up so easily and neither do I, as you can see.”
