Dale walked briskly into the small one-room apartment, throwing his briefcase on the rickety bed and loosening his worn-out navy blue tie. He sat down next to his battered leather briefcase and placed his head in his hands. He sighed.

"How'd the job interview go?" His older sister Layla asked, walking into the room. She sat down next to him, her long dirty blonde hair back in a ponytail, probably so that her son, Brandon wouldn't chew on it.

"Awful," He groaned, "The guy paid absolutely no attention to me and I just rambled on about how much I needed the job."

Layla grasped his large hands tightly in her tiny ones, compelling him to lift his head up. "It's going to be okay. We don't really need the money right now anyway." Looking him in the eye, she said, "Trent and I owe you everything we have, this apartment, a bed, a place for Brandon."

Dale sighed again, running his fingers through his light brown hair, "I know, I just wish I could give you guys more, you know? And without that job, we might lose the car and possibly even the apartment."

"Don't worry about it," Layla advised, "I am sure you will find a job. Plus, I have a job interview tomorrow, so I have a shot at this too. And I promise you, if I don't get this job, we can leave and start anew somewhere else." She smiled at him as she got up and walked out of the room.
