It was the next day. Connor and Lydia were at school, Evan was home with a cold. He really hadn't expected Heidi to just let him stay home but she seemed a bit stressed and mumbled something about a future pandemic and she didn't want him to spread viruses.

Didn't seem important to Evan. That wouldn't happen, right?

Anyway, it was a reason for him to stay home, so of course he chose to stay home. He was pretty bored. Evan had spent the day watching Disney movies, but he didn't really feel like watching more movies. His mom was at work, so he couldn't talk to her either. Evan looked at the clock.

About 11 am.

How was it still so early?

Evan sighed. The first break at school would begin within a few minutes, so he'd just text Lydia during break. Evan was surprised when someone texted him before break even started. It was someone he didn't know.

emo: Hi
emo: This is Connor

Evan let out a relieved sigh. He'd been afraid the unknown number was some creep, or blackmailer, or- nope. Not going to think like that now.

forest expert: Hi
forest expert: How did you get my number?
forest expert: I don't mind or something, I'm actually glad that you texted me because I'm really bored but I'm just curious and it's not like I'm accusing you from hacking my phone or something so-

emo: You're typing pretty long

Evan rolled his eyes. He deleted the entire text he'd just typed and thought for a while.

forest expert: Sorry, I was kind of panicking. Anyway, how did you get my number? I don't think you hacked my phone or something, but I'm just curious

That should work.

What if Connor did hack his phone?

Don't overthink this, Evan.

emo: Lydia sent it to me before school so I'd have someone to talk to during class

forest expert: Oh

emo: The bell is ringing
emo: brb
emo: I'm going to look for Lydia

forest expert: Bye

Evan thought for a moment about the mystery of "should I put an exclamation mark or shouldn't I?" He decided not to do it.

emo: Bye!

Oh.

Looks like Connor solved the mystery, and Evan was wrong. Evan waited for someone to text him while he watched a conspiracy video about Disney. Evan was a Disney fan, if you hadn't noticed yet. He was also a conspiracy theory fan, though they were kind of scary and they made Evan anxious. Evan found them really interesting though.

other emo: hey

forest expert: Hi!

Why didn't Lydia put an exclamation mark and Connor did?

Humanity is weird.

other emo: can Connor and I come over to yours after school? you rlly have to hear what happened and I'd rather tell you in person than through text

forest expert: I'll text my mom, brb

Evan was curious what happened. He hoped it was nothing bad. It probably wasn't, Lydia didn't act traumatized or something. She actually seemed pretty excited.
