Morrow came as I headed down to meet with Zanthael. "Feelin' better I see," he said.
I sheepishly turned away, "Yea. Much better after proper sleep. Anyroad, I would like to meet with the Admiral if she's available."
"I shall announce your coming,"
I nod as he lead me towards the command room where Merlwyb rose from her chair. "Ah Alex. I see you have recovered."
I nod as I approached the desk. "I must apologize for causing quite a stir,"
"Nonsense. 'Tis plain to see you have exhausted yourself and deserved nights rest. Now I have a task that needs to be done, one I entrust to no other,"
I felt a chill run down my spine, not that I was afraid, but to be trusted enough by the Admiral herself with a single task. "What's this task?" I asked, pretty sure my voice cracked somewhere.
"This task needs a bit of explaining, so I do hope you didn't make any plans,"
"None at all, ma'am."
"Good, to business then." She pulled out two letters. "I have penned a letter to each of my counterparts in the Eorzean Alliance." She handed the to me as I took a peek at the words written.
"A remembrance ceremony?"
"Precisely. The Battle at Carteneau and the Calamity that followed claimed many lives. It's been five years since those of us rose from the ashes to see the scared Eorzea we once knew. Five years and yet the people still suffer..." her back was turned as she stared out the window which curved the back of the room.
To think it's been five years since I lost my father, not being able to recall his face or even his voice. I was disheartened to even think that possibility yet there were truth to those thoughts.
"The once Warriors of Light who would have given the people hope, are all gone. Yet we must move on, regardless, we will never truly until we face our past. Which is why I propose to hold a memorial ceremony in each of city-states on the fifth anniversary of that bloody day. I will have you deliver them to our allies as my personal envoy,"
"P-personal envoy?" I was shocked to hear her say such words. Me, of all the capable people out there, she chose me.
"Indeed. You have proven your worth and an ally to Limsa. Though I didn't choose you because of that. I chose you because you possess a quality, I once thought lost, which puts me in mind of history's champions. Tell me true, will you preform this duty?"
My heart was racing, I could finally expand my horizons, who was I to refuse. "Of course I will!" I said all to excitingly.
"You never cease to amaze me, Alex. Now this task will take you beyond our borders to the city-states of Gridania and Ul'dah." She smiled somehow knowing I wasn't going to say no. "It's quite a journey if you were to travel by land or sea, but I will have you travel by skies instead." She proceeded to hand me a pass.
Taking it in hand I couldn't believe my own eyes. I could travel whenever I pleased, by an airship. I placed it in my bag as she continued. "On behalf of Limsa Lominsa and her people, I bid you forth, Alex. Let the light of that crystal guide you, for danger shall await you at every turn, but don't turn away from it. Your destiny is no small thing, I wager. Go an speak with Baderon, I'm quite sure he'd want to see you before you depart."
I nod to her as I walked out of the command room. My heart hadn't stopped it's rapid beating, though at this point I didn't care. I was finally going to explore more of Eorzea just like my father. Where he once stepped, so too shall I, though in new light of a new era. As I made my way back towards the upper decks, I could hear Baderon speaking with someone.
