It's Monday morning but this is no ordinary Monday, it is my first day at Lakebrooke high school. I stop at the mirror to do a final look at my outfit. I have my blonde hair swept into a braid, my favourite gray crop top, a pair of jean shorts and my nicest pair of flats to finish it off. Perfect.
When I step off the landing onto the main floor of the house I am greeted with a camera flash. "Mom!" I yell.
"Oh come on dear, smile for the camera," my mother replies.
"Best do it she says Hailey," says my brother as he walks into the room drying his wet hair with a towel.
"Easy for you to say James, you graduated last year. So it is not like you have to deal with Mom's back to school pictures." I glare at him covering my face with my hair hand so my mother can't take a picture of me, then turn and walk out the door.
Ever since my dad died last year mom has been smothering me and James that is why she moved us to this town saying that it would be a fresh start for us but I feel like it is a curse.
