Chapter 10: Slight Complications

Ben's POV:
I was so excited that things were going so well. We'd slept in our virtual dorms and had continued our search. We now had 4 days to kill the virus and get out. We even had a virus tracker. But of course, that was when things started to go wrong.

We were following the tracker as we tried to find the virus when the ground shook. I took Erica's hand and we continued walking toward the virus. The scientists had fixed the comms so we could tell people had walked into the room.

There was a series of screams and we didn't know why. Until someone cleared their throat and spoke.

"*Ahem.* Miss me?" Erica froze.

"Joshua." She whispered.

I nodded. I had come to the same conclusion. She was pale and I could tell she was scared. She had bad memories of this guy. We all did. I turned and looked at her. She looked up and I saw fear in her eyes. This threw me off because she never got scared. She was Erica Hale for gods sake.

"You okay?" She nodded. "Can I ask you something?"

"Of course."

"You never get scared, even around him. Why is this time any different?" She took a deep breath.

"Because now I have you. And I love you. And I'm scared something bad is gonna happen. If I lose you too, I don't know what I'm gonna do." My heart melted.

"You're not gonna lose me. I can take care of myself pretty well. And you're here. We both know you can. And no matter what you'll always be with me, and I'll always be with you, even if either us, gods forbid, die. In here." I pointed to her heart and she smiled a little. I leaned down and kissed her softly.

"Promise?"

"Promise." I whispered into her ear as I put my arm around her.

"Wait did you say gods?"

"Uh yeah. Why?"

"Like who?"

"Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. Why? I'm friends with some kids that go to Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter." She took this in and smiled.

"Me too."

We heard people grunting as they fell. I could only hope it was Joshua and Spyder's agents. We didn't have to wonder for long.

"Uh, hello? Erica? Ugh Ben?" He said my name like I was a traitor, like I don't know, him?

"Hello Joshua." She growled.

"I'd say it's a pleasure to see you, but we all know I'd much rather see you dead in a broken old grave where you belong you traitor." I said calmly, though my voice was dripping with hate.

"My, my, my. That's not very kind. I'm glad to see you both. My trap worked. You see, I knew you'd get stuck once my virus was activated. In case you didn't know, you will die if you don't kill the virus and get out in 4 days. But I feel that's too much time. So I'm gonna cut that to 2 days. Hopefully you die in there and my problem is solved. But if you somehow manage to escape, I'll be waiting out here where I will kill you. I'd say you could just give up, but while I'm evil, I'm not stupid. Erica, you won't give up because you ant to get out and murder me for how I hurt you. And Ben, you'll do whatever it takes for Erica to notice you and maybe even like you. Even though she's too hung up on me to ever like anyone that way again. So- wait. Why are you laughing? Why is your arm around her?"
