The chirping of the birds broke Ishita's slumber and she opened her eyes, yawning. The loud chirping, resonating with her inner feelings of joy and bliss which she felt in Raman's loving embrace which he had her in till now.
Ishita turned to her side and snuggled closer to her hubby who was sleeping like a little baby. She carresed his rough beard whilst he got disturbed and told her to let him sleep in peace
"Tumhe dikhai nahi de raha ke banda so raha hai? Kal raat tumhaare liye kaafi nahi thi kya? Chain se sone do mujhe."
(Can't you see I'm sleeping? Wasn't yesterday night enough for you? Let me sleep in peace.)
Ishita got startled by Raman's reaction and got up immediately whilst Raman put his quilt over his face and drifted back to sleep.
Ishita went into the bathroom and stared at her reflection in the mirror, numb hearing Raman's despicable words. She felt embarrassed at herself, tears flowing down her cheeks involuntarily.
It was only when her mother in law came to call her downstairs did she come back to reality and got ready.
Toshi ji saw her daughter in law without her sindoor and manglasutra and questioned her why they were missing. Ishita did not mince her words and told Toshi to question her son.
"shingar unke liye kiya jaata hai jo aapse pyaar aur izzat se pesh aate hain. Mera mann nahi chah raha ke main Raman ke liye sajoon. Kyun ka jawab aap apne bete se hi mangiye."
(I would've gladly adorned myself with vermilion and my wedding chain had Raman been respectful towards me. I don't feel like decking up for him and you can ask him for the reason.)
Toshi ji realised that her idiotic son would've said something unjustified to Ishita
"Ishita, Raman ki harkatein bachkana hain aur uski taraf se main tujhse maafi maangti hoon."
(Raman is childish and I apologise to you on his behalf.)
Ishita was amused by her mother in law's words
"Jo kuch bhi kaha gaya hai, Raman ne kaha hai. Aap ki maafi iss baat ka bayan nahi hai ke woh apni baat pe sharminda hain."
(Whatever has been said, has been said by Raman. Your apology is not testimony to his shame.)
Toshi ji wanted to know the exact matter.
"Puttar mujhe bata toh sahi ke hua kya hai."
(At least tell me what happened.)
Ishita walked over to Raman and pulled the quilt off his face as he got up irritated
"You are the limit. Maine kaha naa, let me sleep."
Raman was blabbering on to Ishita without realising his mother was in the room. Toshi went over to Raman and rebuked him
"Yeh kya baqwaas harkat hai Raman? Aise kaise tu apni nayi naveli dulhan se itni badtameezi kar sakta hai?"
Raman got off his bed, glaring at Ishita for getting him in trouble.
"Ishita ko mat ghoor Raman. Usne mujhe kuch nahi bataya. Main tere muh se baat sunna chahti hoon."
(Don't stare at Ishita, she hasn't told me a thing. I want to hear it from you.)
"Maa, main soya hua tha aur yeh mujhe disturb karne lagi thi. Main irritate hogaya aur ispe chila diya. Itni koi badi baat nahi hai."
(Mom, I was sleeping and she started disturbing me. I screamed at her because of irritation. There's no big deal in that.)
Toshi ji saw Ishita tearing up and asked her to tell her side of the story
"Ishita Puttar, tu be jhijak mujhe bata kya hua tha."
(Tell me what happened Ishita?)
"Aap meri Maa ki jagah hain aur aapke saamne aisi baatein main karna nahi chahti magar Raman ka bartaav mere saath galat tha aur mujhe aapko yeh baat samjhani zaroori hai."
(You are like a mother to me, and I don't want to talk in such an explicit manner with you. However, Raman's behaviour with me was wrong and I feel it's important for me to make you understand that.)
Toshi ji stared at Ishita blankly, not at all anticipating what was to come for her next.
"Khul ke bata Puttar."
(Tell me openly Ishita)
Raman tried to brush the matter under the rug, realising his folly
"Maa, mujhe bhook lagi hui hai, aap neeche chalo aur mujhe paranthe banake do."
(Mom, I'm really hungry come downstairs and make me breakfast.)
Toshi ji stayed put as Ishita swiftly diverted her attention.
"Meri baat sunne bina kahi nahi jaa sakti aap."
(You cannot leave without hearing me out.)
"Bol Puttar."
(Tell me, dear.)
"Maa, main iss ghar mein Raman ki patni banke aayi hoon. Main inse sirf pyaar aur izzat ki umeed rakhti hoon. Lekin inki ghinoni baaton ne mujhe bahut taqleef di hai. Main aapse isse zyaada aur kuch nahi kahungi."
(Mom, I've come to this house as Raman's wife and all I expect from him is love and respect. But, his despicable words have hurt me immensely. I won't say anything more.)
Raman darted towards Ishita
"Tum bahut kuch pehle hi keh chuki ho."
(You've said enough before.)
Toshi ji tried to diffuse the tension between Ishita-Raman.
"Dekh Ishita Puttar, Raman ne apni khushi aur marzi se tujhse shaadi ki hai. Magar main maanti hoon ke usse tere saath gussa nahi karna chaiye tha. Ainda se apni aapsi baatein khud hi suljha lena. Aise kisi teesre ko involve karne se maamle bigarte hi hain, sulajhte nahi hain."
(Look Ishita, Raman married you with his own choice and happiness. Though, I agree that he shouldn't have lost his temper at you. Just bare in mind that next time solve your personal matters yourself. Involving a third person just worsens matters.)
Toshi ji left Ishita-Raman's bedroom and the couple were left all alone, sharing an awkward silence.
Ishita spoke breaking it
"I'm sorry Raman but your words made me feel you merely used me to fulfill your sexual need."
Raman glared at Ishita and took her hand in his, making her sit on their bed.
"Ishita, I won't sit here giving long lectures, justifying myself but honestly, that was all your misconception. Please don't create a scene in front of Maa next time. It gets embarrassing."
Ishita sat feeling guilty at her own behaviour, as Raman held her hand and took her to the dressing table filling her partition with sindoor, holding her by the waist. He then gestured to Ishita through his eyes to pick up the manglasutra and give it in his hand.
He caressed her waist and pulled her closer to himself, pecking her forehead and parted only to make her wear her manglasutra, dropping kisses down her neckline.
"Make these ornaments a part of yourself now Mrs. Ishita Raman Kumar Bhalla."
Raman took Ishita's lips in his, chewing and sucking hungrily, parting only to take a breath.
Raman had managed to captivate Ishita once again with his charm.
