Without further ado, let us get on to the next update which will delve into Raman's psyche and what has led him to become what he is.
Summary
Raman was born to Om Prakash and Toshi after six years of marriage. Having miscarried three times before Raman's birth, Toshi and her husband craved a child. Therefore, when they had a successful pregnancy, fourth time round, having made a mannat at the Golden Temple, the couple believed that their baby was a miracle from the Almighty and they must keep him loved and protected at all costs. However, in their blind faith, they did not realise that Raman was slipping out of their hands.
Raman always believed he could throw his weight around because he was taught no better. His parents spent so much time pampering him that they forgot to teach him basic manners such as respect. He felt he could behave the way he wanted and no one would say a word to him. This is why, he disrespected Ishita believing she would accept it all, just like his parents. However, her refusal to accept Raman's wrong doings, startled him.
He had believed he could control her despite his rash behaviour by manipulating her by sugar coating his words but it had been a futile exercise.
Ishita was a young woman with a strong head on her shoulders. Having seen her mother being subjected to verbal and physical abuse by her father, she made it a point to not tolerate any misbehaviour from her own husband.
Ishita often thought of her mother and how easily Raman had made her believe in his goodness. That was partly the reason Ishita wanted to give the illusion of a happy marriage to her mother. However, the truth of the matter was that she could not drag the carcass of a relationship which was surviving on nothing but manipulation, any longer. Though, she wanted to conceal the reality from her mother thinking it would break her heart.
But, could such an important detail of her daughter's life be kept hidden from Madhavi?
Chapter Nine
The upbringing that Raman had, gave him a narcissistic personality. He loved himself dearly and always wanted everything as per his own whims and fantasies. His mood dictated his behaviour.
When Raman had first laid sight on Ishita, he witnessed her as a demure young woman who he believed would submit to his will. He had not known that her silence was not a witness to her submission. Rather, it was out of reluctance to mingle with a strange guy before marriage.
Raman had misinterpreted Ishita's personality but her outburst today reintroduced her to him. Today, he saw Ishita as an individual who would not take any crap and that shattered his ego. However, Raman would try to salvage his bruised ego at all costs.
His parents were to be majorly blamed for his wayward ways. They had gotten him married without teaching him how to respect the institution. The truth was that Raman did not understand the purity of marriage. He had not even been ready for marriage. It was his mother's constant nagging which compelled him to take the plunge. Otherwise he was happily living the bachelor life.
