Zara's POV:

The welcome assembly was dispersed by the headmaster and it was way off than what I had expected. Scarlett and I exchanged questioning glances while walking out the hall. "Well, that was weird," she remarked as we headed out.

To lighten the air, Scar and I joked about how our headmaster was completely freaked out. To annoy her, I gave her a slight nudge and said, "By the way, I saw Ayden giving you his oh-so-charming smile earlier today", I glanced at her annoyed expression and smiled victoriously. I loved annoying her.

Scarlett just scowled," Shut up Zara, he's just as stuck up as everyone else that goes to Braxten High," she remarked, rolling her eyes dramatically.

As we made our way to the very deserted senior locker hallway, Scar was ranting about how she'll decorate her locker and being a good listener and the amazing best friend I am, I listened to her with all my attention.

As we proceeded towards the senior lockers, the hallway quickly crowded up. Upon seeing our lockers together I faked a dramatic sigh, "Guess I'm stuck with you for the-". I said, looking away from Scar and glancing at our lockers.

I saw the words 'YOU'RE NEXT' smeared onto mine and Scarlett's locker with something that appeared to be fresh blood.

Suddenly, nothing made sense. I could hear Scarlett shrieking and calling my name, but it sounded distant. Like I was in a dream. I think I was running, or maybe jogging, I couldn't tell. I had to get out of there.

Breathe, I tried to remind myself. I could feel myself bumping into someone, but I didn't wait to see. Honestly, I wasn't sure where I was headed and soon I felt my breakfast of waffles along with other contents of my stomach making its way up my throat.

I thought I heard footsteps behind me, following me perhaps, but I really had to keep going. Or I would collapse, seeing as I could already see black spots in my vision. I made it to the ladies' room and wasted no time in emptying the contents of my stomach into the nearest sink.

I leaned against the wall and slid down to the floor, trying to remind myself to take large gulps of air. I noticed I was shaking and I shut my eyes tight, welcoming the darkness. I felt warmth as if someone had embraced me, and against all sense of better judgment I leaned into the source of warmth and let myself be consumed by the darkness.
