Scarlett's POV
I woke up to the sunlight creeping into the room through the haphazardly drawn curtains. Once awake, I realized that we never really finished our movie marathon and fell asleep in our living room, Zara and Azriel occupying the couch while Ayden and I were sprawled on the mattresses we had put down.
We had been watching Harry Potter, and never got past the third movie. It had taken a lot of convincing to get Azriel the Asshole to agree to watch the Harry Potter series because he claimed they were lame.
He was the only one who actually made it to the end of the third movie and slept the last, so I'd like to think he was more than just impressed by the movies.
I looked over at Ayden who had his arm wrapped around me in his sleepy state. I smiled a little and pulled the blanket over us. I winced as soon as I lifted the blanket; realizing I had used my left arm. My arm was still sore but it gained a little motion since Ayden made sure that I attended all my physiotherapy sessions.
I must've been louder than I had anticipated, because the next thing I know is that my light-sleeper of a boyfriend is already up and convinced that I've managed to shake my arm off my body in the five seconds I've been awake.
"Oh my god Scar are you fine?! How many times have I told you to not use that arm? Does it hurt a lot?" he said while sitting up and inspecting my arm.
"No, don't worry and go back to sleep please," I mumbled, pulling my arm away gingerly. "Why do you have to be such a light sleeper?"
Before Ayden could answer, Azriel was already up and disturbed by the commotion, which resulted in him throwing one of the couch cushions right at my head. "Shut the fuck up, you two. So annoying," he muttered grumpily and pressed his face back down into his pillow with a frown, hugging Zara who was, by some miracle, still asleep.
"Asshole," I muttered, sitting up and reaching for my phone which was on the table beside the couch and pulling his hair just cause I could. "Ow, I hate you," he mumbled, not looking up.
"Enough both of you," Ayden said while standing up and running a hand through his hair. "Rest while I go get your morning medicines," he said and pressed a kiss to my forehead, pulling the blanket over me.
I decided to scroll through my social media feeds, as I had switched off mine as well as all of the other phones after yesterday's fiasco, not wanting to have our sleepover interrupted by phone calls or texts.
Five seconds into me turning my notifications on, the texts and calls flooded in, so did news articles and live news reporting links.
"What's all the noise about?" Azriel asked, sitting up and giving up on going back to sleep.
"Switch on the television to the local news channel."
"Huh?" Zara mumbled, finally waking up. "Just pass me the remote," I said, getting frustrated at the lack of help I was getting from the two of them.
"Way to be bitter so early in the morning," Azriel muttered, fishing out the remote from the couch and handing it to me. I smacked him with the remote on his arm, fiddling with it to find the channel when I had it pulled from my hand.
"Can you ever listen to what I say and rest for a while? Why do you want to watch the news channel so early in the morning?" Ayden said while handing me a glass of water and my medicines. "Take these first."
"I'll take the meds if you just give me the damned remote and let me switch to the local news. Apparently our school's on there and it's important so hurry the fuck up," I said, snatching it from him when he handed it to me in frustration.
"Reporting live from Braxten High School located in New York City, which witnessed a school shooting yesterday afternoon while the students had their lunch hour. We are currently in the same cafeteria which was turned to a bloodbath within a few minutes," the reporter continued speaking about the shooting, describing it with all the synonyms of gruesome she could seem to think of.
"I don't think our school is going to give out the inside information or even tell them about the actual number of casualties," Zara commented, sighing frustratedly.
"Shh, maybe the information will be leaked anyway. The students are kids of some of the most influential people around," I replied.
"The casualties that have been reported so far are sixteen students including the son of the chairperson of the board of directors, Jake Williams and five employees present in the school cafeteria at that time. Moreover, twenty students have been injured and are in critical condition. The school has ensured that each one of them receives adequate medical attention," the report added, the television screen displaying the names and photos of the students.
"Casualty as in..." I started hesitantly.
"Dead," Ayden finished. "Damn, way to give them some respect," Azriel mumbled. "So, what now? Someone just comes in and destroys our school and we watch?"
"Oh and also murder people. Sixteen is a big number," I said. "I wonder who's behind all this."
"We all know who is behind all of this, it's the same person who killed Mr.Murray and Gabriel. I am just very thankful that all of us made it out safe and sound," Zara said while snuggling into Azriel.
"The school is to remain closed until further notice since the parents are not willing to send their children to the school, calling it 'life-threatening' and 'unsafe'."
"At least this gives us time to think about what we need to do next," Azriel said and hugged Zara, laying both of them back down on the couch. "For now, let's just rest for the day."
