"Can I say bye first?" Tina had a wobble in her voice.
Grindelwald let out a maniac laugh. "Fine, you pesky little girl. Have your soppy farewells. You're gonna need it."
The bubbles slowly floated back down to the ground, and Tina couldn't help but be reminded of the baby floating down, down, down. She shuddered as she remembered Leta, one of the nicest people she'd ever met, the girl who's picture Newt carried, the one who sacrificed herself for all of them. You could learn a lot about someone from twenty minutes in a case together.
"Hello. You're... Tina Goldstein, right?"
Tina stuttered. "Uh- uh, yeah. Leta Lestrange?"
Leta laughed. "You know how I know you?"
"Uh- no?" Tina was curious.
"You're the girl whose picture Newt carries."
Nagini's bubble popped first. She was scared. She saw Grindelwald facing off to Tina, yet couldn't hear a word.
"Tina? What's happening?" Nagini asked, scared.
Tina came over to her and hugged her. "I'll be fine. It's all going to be fine."
"Tina! What's going to-" but before she could finish her sentence, another bubble appeared and trapped her. While the bubble was finishing, Nagini put her hands against the walls.
Inaudible to Tina, she whispered. "I don't want to lose you too."
Jacob watched this with curious eyes.
"Hey- hey, Tina, what's going on? I don't have the foggiest idea what you're on abou- oh." Because Tina had hugged him. He studied her face for a second. The only thing he could see was a tear slowly, slowly travelling down her cheek.
She thought he couldn't hear her when the bubble was closing again, but he could.
"Bye."
Olivia heard all of it. She heard what Tina wanted to do.
"My, my. I don't entirely want to let this one," pointing to her bubble, "out." Grindelwald snickered. "But I suppose I have to."
Olivia came tumbling out of her bubble, worried.
"Teen, no- you know you can't do this, think about how all of us would feel, think about how Newt would feel- it's crazy!" She tried to convince her. But Tina- with several tears tracking down her face now- just held her tight.
"Shhh, Liv. It's all going to be okay."
"No it's not! You can't leave us all behind!" Olivia tried to protest. "Don't you see? Haven't you seen? We are all a big happy family! You're a mother figure to both me and Nagini! And a sister to Jacob. And Newt- Newt loves you, Tina!"
Olivia cried more and more, trying to help her. "He loves you more than you think, Tina! He needs you, we all do!" She tried to struggle against Tina, but she held her ground.
"I'm sorry, Olivia. I have to."
Olivia was sobbing uncontrollably now, the bubble closing around her. She sent one more message.
Love you, Tina.
She saw Tina smile a little.
Love you too.
Olivia glanced at Queenie and drank what was going through her brain. Queenie met her eyes.
She's doing WHAT? Queenie thought to Olivia .
Olivia shrugged, tears still racing down her face. I can't stop her, I'm so sorry, I just-
Queenie looked down and back up again. She can't.
What's she planning to do? Newt wondered. He had watched everyone with Tina. What were they doing? His bubble slowly descended and Tina turned around to face him. Her face was streaked with tears, she was crying freely.
"Tina- what's wrong, Tina- don't cry, you're going to make me cry, please?" He tried to comfort her. He wanted her to feel safe, feel loved... he couldn't just tell her! He hugged her, held her tight.
"We're going to keep you safe, we'll all be safe, okay?"
Tina looked at him. "I'm sorry, Newt. I'm so sorry."
"No, no, don't be sorry, you don't have anything to be sorry for, you're fine..." he tried so hard. What was she talking about?
"It's my fault we're all here. It's my fault everyone could die. I don't want anyone to die!" She sobbed.
She looked at him, wiping her face on her sleeve, and then stood on her tippy toes and kissed him on the nose. It was so soft, like the flutter of wings against his nose, but it felt like he was walking on air, his head full of stars. Before he could respond, the bubble (that blasted bubble ruining a perfectly good moment!) closed back around him, but not before he heard one last thing.
"I'm so sorry."
Tina spun to face Grindelwald.
"Made your decision yet, Goldstein? I don't have all day." He looked at her, as if he could solve all the problems life would throw at him.
"We could give you something to live for. We could give you all we wanted! You could have freedom, love," he glances at Newt's bubble "and happiness."
Tina glared at him, a full scale Tina-Goldstein-badass glare.
"Never."
Grindelwald's face contorted to one of absolute fury.
"Then die, you pesky girl!" He shot a purple spell, one Tina hadn't seen before. Right before it hit her, she cast a half-hearted weak protection spell.
"Protego!" The spell entered her, and all Tina could see was the purple flash of the spell and red.
Newt fell out of his bubble with a thud, but that wasn't the first thing he registered. He was vaguely aware of Grindelwald and his followers attacking the aurors and a battle going on. He darted to Tina, whose body and clothes near her tummy were soaked in blood.
Ooooooo cliffhanger! Not an entirely good one, but I'm sorry. The next chapter's gonna be a bit worse than this one, so hang on tight and get your tissues, you're gonna need more!
Love y'all
