Chapter Five - Cave of Truth
During the day, Granite Bay was untouched by the creatures of the night, making it seem harmless to the outside world. Like most of the town, the caves have unexplored areas due to the earthquake in 1727. Over the years, many miners died looking for gold or hidden treasures buried under the tall hills. Nothing was ever found; hundreds of men and children have lost their lives to the caves of Granite Bay.
The caves were south of the town of a small road called Pond Road. Many hills cover the land; many rivers, forestland, and mystery have grown within these hills. Embedded within the mountains, the caves of Granite Bay have been lost until Chimmy and his gang. Each memory that was created at The Falls was tapping into the Unseemly-their hidden, unseen power.
Chimmy noticed Rozzi really was different; everyone could see it but were scared after telling his nightmare from hell. Rozzi led the gang, which was odd. Every twenty seconds, give or take, he would stop, hold his chin, then nodded his head to some unseen force as if agreeing with their answer. Rozzi even looked smarter in Chimmy's eyes; maybe this was a gift. He looked normal.
"Rozzi, you okay?" Chimmy asks, concerned for his friend. "You looked lost."
"I feel fucking great, Chim! Being smart feels better. They fixed me, Chim!" Rozzi exclaims. "We head South for five more minutes, and we'll be there," he says.
"Where is there exactly?" Douglas says, scared.
"The entrance we're looking for, this is the safest route that they can't get to," Rozzi confirms.
After a few minutes of rough traveling, they arrive at what looks like a blocked entrance. Rozzi walks around observing the stones that blocked the so-called "safe entrance." He asks Barbie for assistance, stating she was the key he needed, the access they all would need at some point.
"How can I help Rozzi?" She asked. "Grab my hand," he says, reaching out his sweaty palm.
"Now what-!" Suddenly Barbie falls silent. Chimmy notices her eyes fill with darkness, unable to see the once bright blue irises. She begins to speak, but the voice that spoke was not hers, well, not hers entirely.
"Follow me now."
With no choice, handprint Rozzi is dragged forward as zombie-like Barbie leads them to a hidden path beyond the blocked entrance. Chimmy noticed she was still talking, but not to them; she wasn't making any sense. The others kept their distance from her, unlike their brave leader, Chimmy will make it right, he always fixed his friends problems, this should be no different he thought to himself. Then again, the girl he is crushing on is possessed by some fucked up unseen whatever, and his formally dumb best friend is now essential. How the hell can he fix this one? This isn't normal for a thirteen-year-old boy. Standard is making jokes with Rozzi and the gang, skipping rocks in the pond they had made that first year they all became friends (before Douglas).
Before Douglas, life was every day, the life of a pre-teen, but Chimmy knew now he was no longer a child, oh no, he was a fucking maniac. They all were, following a hunch based on a nightmare. Now Chimmy understood why he was drawn to Douglas. God knew he would have never gone to the Pathway of Hell out of his own free will, not even from a double-dog dare from his older brothers, not until the lonely boy Chimmy noticed pondering like a lost puppy. To be honest, he felt terrible for the kid; he somehow felt his pain, his loneliness. After finding out that Douglas lived where he lived, Chimmy made it his primary goal to help this kid become someone special.
Barbie continued leading the gang into an unexplored territory that looked like it's been untouched for centuries. A thick layer of moss coated the large boulders; she suddenly stops and points to one of the boulders.
