Part Two - The Arrival

Chapter Nine - Missing Pieces

Peter Jenkins was the town sheriff, and with a small town came a small police department. Granite Bay Police Department (GBPD) consisted of four local officers. All of which grew up in the city, none of which had gone to the police academy. Only the sheriff had gone to school; that's why he was the sheriff after all. He had been working for the police department for the past nine years; the past three, he had been the sheriff, which Peter loved if he could be honest with himself.

The Jason Stonebrooke case was nothing like anything he had worked on before. How this kid's body was found was unnatural for the human eye to stomach. The man who found the body was a local named Clyde Boyer. He was a mid-aged man who was the manager at the drug mart in town; he was divorced now for two years. Rumor says he cheated on his wife with the house cleaner, which happened to be an illegal Mexican man who forged a dead man's social security number. Neighbors haven't seen the little man since his wife packed her bags and left him with nothing but the house and an empty bank account.

Peter brought Clyde into the interrogation room to ask how he came across this gruesome scene. He offered him a cigarette, which to Peter's surprise he took with now trembling hands.

"So, start from the beginning. Can you do that for me, Clyde? Just tell me about how you started your day up to the moment you found the Stonebrooke boys' body." Peter said as he lit the cigarette for the shocked Clyde Boyer. He shook his head in agreement.

"Since Wendy left me, I needed to pick up a new hobby, something that could keep me busy, ya know," Clyde said, and Peter nodded with a confirmation. "So, I began to bird watch. Keeps me calm and gets me away from this place and the rumors. People are still saying stuff; I hear them. People think I don't, but I do." He looked at the cop who was standing behind him. "Anyways, Loners Trail has the best spot for birds if you didn't know. Not creepy like these young kids make it out to be. Well, it wasn't until now."

"Mr. Boyer, please focus," Peter asked calmly.

"Sorry, it was so fucked up, Sheriff Jenkins," he paused for a moment to regain his thoughts. "How that boy's body was tied to those trees... How is he, you know?" he looked at Sheriff Jenkins with wide eyes.

When Peter Jenkins arrived at the scene, he wasn't mentally prepared for what his eyes would see next. Jason Stonebrookes's body was tied from two trees that were six feet apart from one another; his wrist and his ankles were spread in the shape of an X. Peter imagined Jesus on the cross, but this situation had no cross. The boy's body was tied firmly to these trees on display for the world to see; that wasn't the worst of the scene. The Stonebrooke boy had been stripped naked and, from what the crime scene showed, sexually violated. There were long gashes across his buttocks with blood leaking from God knows where. His mouth seemed to be ripped open, removing his jaw from his skull, which hung dripping blood and missing teeth, swinging in the morning breeze. Chunks of his body were bitten off and most likely consumed by the unsub-great now he had a crazy cannibal loose in his town, this will be easy to contain. The boy's penis had been bitten off completely, which scared Peter the most. Whoever had done this must be the definition of crazy. HIs small police e department (if you can even call them real police) couldn't handle something this insane. The biggest news Granite Bay has run into was the twin brothers who raped and murdered a woman then dumped her body in woods near the waterfall. This happened back in 1925, the two brothers were found settled back at the woman's house they had just killed. As if nothing happened and they were innocent.

They would need some expert help with this, but he didn't want to involve the FBI and get the case taken. This could be his big break, to get the Jenkins family out of Granite Bay for good. He wanted his wife and daughters to be proud of him, especially Barbie. He would never tell his wife, but she was always his favorite daughter out of the two they had. With her being so young, almost thirteen come fall, he had time to make up with his first daughter, and he can show Barbie that Jenkins isn't just meant to protect this town, that they could be more and would be one day.
