Chapter Seventeen - Preparation

Research

Chimmy decided they all stick together until they dealt with whatever the hell was happening. He could tell the adults had the slightest clue what to do next; to be honest with himself, he hadn't either. All he knew was, keep detective Harrison nearby. He trusted him until they figure out what abilities he has; he believes they must keep a close eye on him. He was sure to report to his friends his thoughts and told Barbie to make sure her father knew of them as well. Once this was completed, they gathered together around a massive round table; engraved with ancient symbols of Granite Bay's founding families. Then they began their grand plot.

From the information gathered, Barbie suggested they go after the Kludde first. Maybe they could kill two birds with one stone, she had said. The Kludde had been after Douglas, and Douglas had been overcome by a Wendigo. If they could lure Douglas out into a vulnerable opportunity that the Kludde would expose itself, they could kill the Kludde and capture Douglas, trapping the Wendigo. Somewhere safe; maybe the library. No one except Rozzi could get them out, maybe Gilly, if he traveled through a mirror. That at the moment was too much for Chimmy to wrap his head around at the moment. He still hasn't found out what his role in all this had been. Yes, they called him the Noble Sacrifice, but was that their plan or was it his actual fate; he tried not to overthink it.

Chimmy had everyone on a different task to make the process go more quickly. This felt natural for him, bossing people around. It wasn't his fault; people seem to be attracted to his presence, and he didn't mind the attention. He didn't get much at home; living in his brother's shadows was a tough job. So being in charge of others made him feel appreciated and wanted. Every sport he played in school and outside of school, children looked toward him for leadership. He asked Rozzi and Gilly to find out everything they could about The Unseemly. Sheriff Jenkins and Detective Harrison would dig more into Harrison's family, and Barbie and himself would look up the Kludde and Wendigo. After an hour of research, they would come together and share their intel.

Family History

Harrison felt terrified of what would come next. Ordinarily, he would be thrilled by such a supernatural adventure, but this felt different. He felt connected; bonded. Over the years, he has seen and done many things he regrets. Many lives were taken by his hands, exorcisms went wrong, causing the demon to overtake the body. Once that happened, it was hard to bring back the individual whose body is possessed. More than a few occurrences when Harrison watched a poor soul being tied to their bed, tightly restrained. It was necessary for this. It kept them from harming themselves and the person performing the exorcism. This, too, can go wrong; he had seen it with his own two eyes. A young girl tried twisting her way out.

Screaming in pleasure the whole time. By the end, the demon had broken every bone in that already fragile girl's body, leaving her a vegetable, but not before twisting her neck then withdrawing from her limp, lifeless body. That had been softcore compared to his other escapades.

This book had explained that his family name was Swift. General Heman Swift lived in Granite Bay to be eighty-one years old; he suffered from dementia in later years, but many seemed far more likely a supernatural one. There were rumors that Abigail Dudley had gone driven mad by a curse. General Swift's wife was killed by supernatural forces in the form of lightning in 1804; however, this was not an uncommon occurrence in the eighteen hundred. Throughout the nineteenth century, there were frequent accounts of dramatic lightning strikes rolling through living rooms and kitchens. They say this is what drove The General insane, or he was cursed just like Abigail. In his years, he had ten known children, all were believed to leave Granite Bay after the earthquake, here it shows a man stayed behind, changing his last name to Harrison. To hide from the founding families, he's heard so many horrible things about.
