Chapter Seven - The First Visit

Rulebook

Nobody knew what to say. They each experienced some weird things in that secret cave. Almost everyone, not Chimmy, that's what scared him more than anything. He doesn't know exactly what happened to the gang's others, but he knew it was severe and terrifying. He can see it written all over their faces; they were even carrying themselves differently. As if they were holding a more immense burden than before-them; The Unseemly.

Rozzi knew what he was about to tell the gang was going to seem ridiculous, so he wanted to take them there himself rather than telling them. Once they arrived at The Falls, Rozzi asked them all to hold hands and close their eyes. He had two rules before he really razzed their berries.

Rule One: You must genuinely believe in the unknown.

Rule Two: We all must trust each other.

They all agreed and followed Rozzi's lead. He guided them through the waterfall until they approached the wet rock wall hidden behind the warm summer water that falls through Granite Bay. He places his hand on the wall and concentrates intensely. The wall begins to emit symbols that start to glow a vibrant orange. When Rozzi told them to open their eyes, they all stood in the library that Rozzi had visited during his trial in the caves.

"This is where I went during my trial in the Cave of Truth." He pointed and turned, showing them the thundering sized library that belonged to his ancestors, and now him. "This has all the knowledge of Granite Bay, from how it was created and who created it. The book we were looking for is called The Dark Compendium," when he said that his friends knew what was inside that book; who was inside that book.

"Found it," Barbie yells from across the room, holding a massive black worn and torn tome. "I'll explain later; for now, let's just get the rest of the gang caught up." she winks at Rozzi.

"Barbie, I'm sure you'll agree with me on this one. Let's start with the major issue, The Wendigo. To get everyone caught up quickly, the Wendigo is Douglas. This book will explain everything, just nod, and we can start." They all nod, and Barbie opens the book to a blank page. "Douglas, touch the page," Rozzi instructed.

Cursive lettering began scribbling sentences across the page, revealing the origins of The Wendigo.

According to legend, it's almost impossible to escape a Wendigo. Hunters by nature, Wendigo's are swift and allow nothing to get in the way of their never-ending hunger. Even if you could escape physical damage, encountering this otherworldly being would leave you mentally vacant in most cases. Wendigoes will slump for months or years but beware when they awaken. Wendigoes can stealthily stalk victims for extended periods, with supernatural speed, endurance, and heightened senses such as hearing so precisely they can pick up on panicked heartbeats from miles away. This beast can appear as a monster with a few human characteristics or a spirit who has possessed a human, making them monstrous. Legend says this was how the beginning of cannibalism, murder, insatiable greed, and the cultural taboos behaviors rooted from. Wendigos were cursed to wander the land, eternally seeking to fulfill their appetite for human flesh, and if there is nothing left to eat, it feeds on humans. Once the chase begins, wendigo engages in a torturous game. They bait their prey, release shrieks or growls, and sometimes mimic human voices calling for help. When the hunt begins, a Wendigo becomes an animal. It will race after its prey, creating chaos along the way.

To completely kill a Wendigo, you must pierce their heart with pure silver while in their pure form. Upon wounding the wendigo's heart, you must take care to shatter it into pieces, then lock the broken heart in a silver box and bury it in the Cave of Truth.
