Chapter Eighteen - Gone

Peter and Barbie Jenkins's home was surprisingly large and didn't fit the theme of the town of dwellings built at the time of remodeling of Granite Bay. "A family of physicians comes a long way," Peter Jenkins would always tell his wife when finances weren't still in agreement with them. Peter Jenkins had inherited the estate from his family; some people in town compared it to Marilyn Monroe's estate; like most small towns, that was just gossip, an exaggeration. The house was paid for. That was all that matter to Peter and his wife. His kids had a safe place to call home.

Peter showed Detective Harrison his room and left him alone for the first time since everything. What answers would he find in this book; this can only be the beginning of something he's not ready for. At least a year ago, he couldn't have handled this kind of reality. He would have been drowning in three bottles of cheap whisky and two decently priced whores. Shady Creek had a way of drawing people in, then slowly but surely devouring them with no remorse, leaving one trapped.

Nighttime was always Detective Harrisons' favorite time. While everyone lies in bed, he remained awake in a partial death, almost trapped in limbo for an average of eight hours. Ready to study what the world had in store for him. He would often gather all the notes throughout the case and pin them to the wall, resulting in an enormous billboard of blood and dead bodies. Not tonight; tonight, he wouldn't be hanging any photos on the wall. There was only one source, and that source was lying on the end table next to the giant queen size bed. Typically, he would have a whisky bottle to accompany him while he worked; that made the time fly by. Also, it helped him stay focused. Going at this sober will be the biggest challenge Detective Harrison has faced since his father's disappearance.

He sits on the firm bed and opens the book; tonight, he will get no sleep, and by evening time tomorrow, this will all be over.

In his findings, Detective Harrison discovered his bloodline connected with them; The Unseemly.  One fled home, on rogue orders, and lived on earth for over two hundred years. Being a different species, he lives longer than the average human. Way longer it would seem from these books. In his notes, he found he lived up to a couple of centuries on earth before being captured and sent back home. Having many children with humans in his lifetime; living several lives around the world.

He found that when he is with the Seer, she can unlock his full power. Only she can unlock everyone's power but only with the blood from the darkness.

The Plan

While Sheriff Jenkins showed Detective Harrison to his room, Barbie led her friends to the main living room area. Here, they will set up and begin planning for the attack the next day. They form a circle around a large wooden table.

Chimmy stands up and begins to speak. "So how are we going to save Douglas, you guys? The adults seem to be of no help."

"What about Detective Harrison?" Gilly asks, raising his hand high in the air.

"Yeah, he's good at tracking supernatural things," Rozzi reminds them all. "I bet he could track a ghost, and they don't even leave footprints behind," he adds.

"There we are folks; I knew the real you couldn't be completely gone, and some of that dumbness stuck around; this makes me happy." Chimmy chuckles.

Barbie stands up and interrupts the boys. "I think I know a way we can fight the Kludde, but it won't be easy. We have to use our abilities to fight and trap it, or at least, send it off somewhere else."

"How are we going to do that? We don't all have handy special alien skills." Chimmy hisses then sits back down, joining the circle.

Barbie immediately paces over calm him. "I didn't mean it like that, Chimmy. Just because they call you their sacrifice doesn't mean you're going to die." She hugs him gently.

"Then what else could it mean?" Gilly asks.

"Friendship. Faith. Doesn't have to mean death," she lets him go and stands in the middle of the circle. "We need mirrors."

"Mirrors?" They all ask unanimously.

"We're going to set a trap for the Kludde using them," she says looking around the room, waiting for the reactions. They were blank.

Gilly was the first to speak. "How exactly am I supposed to pull that off?"

"I'm not sure but you're going to have to figure it out soon because it's all I've got right now," Barbie explains.

Final Bout

Chimmy and his friends practiced throughout the night, learning and reading everything they could on how to release Douglas from the Wendigo. Detective Harrison joined them, filling them in on his findings. He shows them the book and what it says about the Seer and the blood of darkness. Detective Harrison's blood, the blood of the Unseemly. Barbie recognized the spell that needed to be cast to unlock everyone's true nature. She grabbed everything they needed and sat in a circle of candles.

Barbie grabbed Detective Harrison's hand and sliced a pure silver blade through his palm gently. His blood left his body slowly, passing across the small weapon, when the blood drops touched the flames, they began to rise with intensity. Her body moved not one inch, either did the detectives. She didn't tell it to; she was in some sort of trance that felt natural. She spread her hands at her side, palms up, and lifted them. Black fire rose around her. Detective Harrison's aura took over all around his body, staining it red. Her aura suddenly started to flare up, turning a light blue. She had to protect her family and her friends so told everyone to hold hands and do not let go. Her power needed to listen to her. To do that, she needed them all to be on the same wavelength. It fought. It didn't want to be controlled. His power was strong, stronger than Barbies but felt oddly familiar to hers.

Shadow creatures began coming from the middle of the circle, engulfing them. They opened their mouths to rows of sharp teeth. Growling and making other disturbing noises, she warns everyone not to be alarmed, they were there to help them.

Her power raged. Holding it down was like trying to stop a tornado with her hands. Different shadows rose around Barbie's fire. Chimmy thought them to be Divine. His dark power merged with hers. All of theirs did. Barbie lifted her hand. Her power felt lighter. She shoved her palm forward. Her fire burned through the charging creatures. She closed her palm. A red wave burst and pulled back before it burned through a circle. A few shadow creatures melted into the ground, avoiding her attack. She felt them behind her. Turning, she swung her palm in their direction causing them the go inside each person in the circle. The dark Divine would be merged with their souls. They shoved their hands forward. Black and red flames raced toward the monsters, accepting them in. The spell was complete.

Everyone's aura started shining brights around them and the shadows that were growling and screeching before, now lived inside them all. With this new power, they knew what must be done next. They would find the Kludde and the Wendigo and send them both to hell.
