What is that mumbling?

I grumbled and shut my eyes tighter, desperately forcing sleep to overcome my senses again. I even opted to covering my ears with my hands. But the mumbling just doesn't stop.

"Where the hell is that sound coming from?" I hear myself say, my morning raspy voice coming in, and my voice barely above a whisper.

I wait for 30 more minutes- yes, I counted- and the mumbling really just...

"When will you stop?!" I scream as I stand up from my 'bed'. I immediately regret my decision because:

1.) I hit my head on the table- made from things I randomly found- really hard.

Who's idea was it to put my 'bed' under the table?! ... Wait... Moving on!

2.) I took one look at Billie's face, shock and hurt written all across her features, suddenly makes my chest feel very heavy.

"N-no Billie, I di-didn't mean i-it." I immediately say, shaking my hands to assure her I legitimately didn't mean it. I start to move closer to her, pushing the table away, accidentally breaking it down. I stare it its now broken figure, this damn table.

Billie shakes her head, her eyes glistening with fresh tears. It made my heart break to see her like that.

I'm so stupid! I promised her! How could I forget that?

"Hey, I-i'm s-sorry." I close the gap between us and pull her into my arms. She whimpers quietly as I stroked her hair while whispering my apologies to her.

After a few minutes, she eventually stopped and just continued to embrace me. She sniffs and says;

"I'm sorry, I was just reading." She tells me.

Since when did you read?

I apparently voiced my thoughts out loud 'cause she responded.

"Imelda and Jacob taught me yesterday after working, they also gave me a dictionary." She says with a small but noticeable smile on her face as she reminisces the events yesterday.

"That's great! But uh..." I cough and look down, feeling quite embarrassed. "What's a dictionary?" I ask.

Billie laughs out loud as her heads tilts back, finding my cluelessness hilarious. Normally I would be slightly annoyed, but hey, after making your sister cry, then making her laugh is such a huge relief.

"Oh haha, I know so hilarious!" I say with mock humor, fighting the smile breaking out on my face.

"I'm sorry, sorry its just that, we really are twins." She says and continues to laugh again. I don't really understand what she meant by that so I just laughed along awkwardly.

Our laughter eventually died down, and when it does, Billie sits down on the floor- our cardboard floor- and continues to read her dictionary, whatever that is since she actually hadn't said anything about it.
