Lorie's p.o.v
I could feel the blood pumping through my veins like hot magma in a volcano about to erupt.
My magic hummed under my skin, itching to be used on the ones who caused my mate harm.
I was livid.
My hands gripped the tie-dye steering wheel cover so hard, my knuckles were turning white.
I didn't need to ask him what pack he was a part of. My parents were the king and queen of the supernatural world at one point. I remember being taught about the different werewolf packs, and their locations. I was also forced to visit them all as a young child.
Based on the area and surrounding smells, my mate was definitely a part of the Cane pack.
They were known as the strongest pack in Northern America, yet that is a self-claimed title. Sure they have the numbers. But their Alpha is a little shit who thinks he can use his power to rule over others with malice.
Eric was fidgeting next to me and it only got worse the closer we got to the territory. I was so happy that I sent some healing magic to him through our kiss in the kitchen. I couldn't take seeing him so hurt. I was staring at the bruises covering his arms and had to do something.
When his tears fell onto my hands, I almost lost all self-control.
I took my right hand off the wheel to comfort him in some way. I placed my hand on the thigh of his closest to me and squeezed. His body froze at my action but I couldn't tell if it was a good or bad thing.
He placed his hand on top of mine and intertwined our fingers. The movement seemed to calm both of us as our postures slacked. I smiled, but it quickly dropped as we pulled into the pack's territory.
"Can you direct me to your place?" I asked cautiously. He clearly wasn't comfortable with what we were doing but it's for his benefit.
I'll help him escape this place if it's the last thing I do.
He let out a sigh and squeezed my hand tightly. I knew he was just gathering up his courage to tell me so I stayed silent.
'My mate has been through so much. And he can't even shift anymore cause of all the shit they did to him. That Alpha has some 'splaining to do. He'll probably remember me, well he should. I mean what other girl has naturally growing pink hair?' I thought, determined to get justice for the handsome guy next to me.
No one deserves to be treated like that.
I'm just ecstatic that Isabel talks to Bane on a regular basis. Eric didn't tell me he couldn't shift, but when he opened up to me, Bane opened up a bit more to Izzy.
"Uh, make a left up here. It's the house with the green door," he said almost hesitantly.
He rubbed a thumb over the back of my hand as I sent him a subtle calm feeling to ease some of his worries.
He was still tense but his hand wasn't holding onto mine as tightly anymore. I made the turn and began searching for a house with a green door, spotting it almost instantly.
'This is where my mate lived up until this morning?' I thought in disgust.
I'm so glad I know how to hide my emotions, I didn't want to offend Eric in any way, but come on. The forest green door had paint chipped off everywhere and there wasn't even a peephole. The lawn looked like straw. Clearly no one has taken care of it for some time.
The windows were covered in grime from what I could tell, and I was surprised that the house wasn't literally falling apart at the seams.
I bit my lip before looking over to Eric. His eyes were closed tightly, the hand holding mine became super clammy. I took a deep breath before unlocking and opening the door. His eyes snapped open as he looked over at me in confusion.
