Eric's pov
The chilled September air soothed the blazing anger coursing through me. My hair whipped around my face at the increasing wind speeds until I held it back with a hand.
I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and relaxed my body into the exhale.
When I reopened my eyes, my gaze was immediately locked on the vision of loveliness before me.
Upon reaching the roof of the school, Lorie had immediately taken her hair down and let it blow freely in the breeze. While I had never been one for heights, she seemed completely comfortable going to sit on the ledge of the two-story building.
My immediate thought was to run up and grab her away from the edge, but just the look on her face made me stop in my tracks.
With her head thrown back, her hair fell in waves to the concrete floor and spread out to her hands that were supporting her weight behind her. The early sun gave her a natural glow that made her appear angelic. She swayed her legs back and forth through the open space beyond the building.
Both of her eyes were closed and a small smile lit up her face. I could see the steady rise and fall of her chest as she breathed in the fresh, crisp air.
Gathering up all the courage I could, I slowly and carefully made my way over to my girl. I sat down a few feet away from the ledge before scootching up until my knees were just over the edge. I didn't dare put my legs over but at least I'm not freaking out right now.
I stayed where I was but slowly glanced down to the ground as far as I could see before gulping loudly.
I could feel my fear spike but before I could dwell on bad scenarios, a small hand connected with mine. My head immediately snapped to Lorie as I squeezed her hand tightly. The sparks delivering a comfortable familiarity, calming me instantly.
"Sorry for flashing us here without letting you know first. That was so studpid dude. Like damn, what the fuck is wrong with these people? Are you okay?" Lorie's hand gripped mine even tighter as her voice filled the silence around us.
I looked out onto the sky that disappeared into the trees of the forest. My head reeling back to what just happened. I don't know whether to feel angry that we just left after that fucktard tried us or be proud that my mate doesn't take anyone's bullshit. No one I've ever met has ever been that strong. Lorie is a force I would have never imagined I could ever encounter, let alone have in my life. Forever.
Looking over at her now, I knew that this love was so much more than just a mate bond. I don't know where I would be if I didn't have Lorie, but I don't have to worry about it. Thank you, goddess.
"I'm not okay with the situation but I'm okay. Right here with you. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, but thank you. Bane was so ready to take over and beat his face in, but I'm grateful that you stopped us. You're so perfect you know?" I said, not resisting the urge to lean over to place my head in the crook of her neck. My nose tingled upon contact with her smooth skin. The little mewl she let out was music to my ears and I wrapped her up in my arms, pulling her closer to me.
"Oh stop that, I am not. But I would do anything for you. Never forget that," she said, making her throat vibrate as she spoke. I placed a kiss against her exposed collar bone and smiled against her skin. A shiver ran through her so I pulled her even tighter into my embrace, hoping to share some of my warmth. "Do you know when the bell is gonna ring? We should probably get back a few minutes before our next class starts. We should still try to get through the day".
I pulled out my phone and checked the time, 9:26. Letting out a groan into her shoulder, I reluctantly pulled away to look down at her. In this position, I could see cleavage that sadly stopped where the lacy white bra started to keep them up. They looked constricted and I barely resisted my temptation to ask her to remove it. I couldn't stop the lustful growl that came with my thoughts, however.
