There were barely any cars out on the road at the moment and I couldn't be more appreciative.

However, even the gratitude I felt for the open space couldn't stop the blazing anger coursing through my body.

I couldn't stop playing with my fingers on my left hand subconsciously. I probably would have been rubbing my hands together if I wasn't gripping my wheel so hard with the right one. I hadn't even realized that my foot had the gas pedal stuck to the floor until the sound of police sirens blaring broke me out of my thoughts.

Eric began breathing deeply from the seat next to me, making me take a quick look over to him as I slowed my Jeep to a stop. His eyes were shut and he was clearly panicking.

My poor baby.

With my car pulled over and the cop not having got out of his vehice yet, I leaned over to my mate and kissed his cheek. With a newfound calmness, Eric hesitantly took a peek over at me. I took his hand, giving him a small smile to try and lessen my guilt for making him feel so uncomfortable.

"I'm sorry for this love. I didn't realize that I was letting my anger get the best of me. We're gonna get some food after this so I can calm down. Don't worry about this though. I have quite a history with police, but I still have a clean record. Just try to keep your cool and relax. I got this," I told him, squeezing his hand to try and assure him this would all work out okay.

He looked at me with wide eyes but didn't say anything.

I was going to ask him why his face was like that but a knock from my driver's window made me focus on the now-present cop.

'This should be easy' I thought briskly.

"Ma'am do you know how fast you were going?" the officer's voice was gruff as he questioned me while I rolled my window down. I gave him a polite smile as I leaned forward a bit.

"I'm sorry officer I didn't realize I was driving so fast. I'm with child and I just had the worst craving for Chinese food with peanut butter. We have peanut butter but no Chinese food. My boyfriend here was taking too long but refused to let me go alone. I guess I was so focused on my belly that I wasn't paying attention. Um, do you need my license and registration?" I asked timidly, looking up at the older cop that pulled me over.

I clutched Eric's hand with my right hand as I rubbed my flat stomach with my other hand. I sighed for dramatic effect as the man looked me over with apprehension.

He bent down a bit to look over at the flustered Eric. I would have laughed but I was trying to get out of a ticket. I unlocked my hand from my anxious mate and began reaching for the glove compartment when the cop stopped me.

"No ma'am, that's alright. I'll let you off with a warning. You seem young, I don't want to put any stress on you. But you seriously need to slow down and pay attention to the street signs. If I were another cop, I wouldn't be letting you off so easy, pregnant or not," he said as he tapped the top of my car twice, "ya'll be careful out here."

I smiled a genuine smile as he walked away, turning towards Eric the moment the cop was out of hearing range. A laugh finally broke through as I took in his deer caught in the headlights look. When I opened my eyes back up, his gaze bore into mine.

"Sorry that was just really funny," I croaked out as I began driving off, "I told you it was fine. I'm sorry I lied, it was just the perfect excuse. I hope you don't mind that much that I did that."

I could feel his eyes on me the whole time I was speaking. I made it to the Chinese food place and parked before he managed to get a single word out.

"I don't mind, I just wasn't expecting that is all. It was pretty funny, I just can't help imagining you with a child now. Our child. I know you say you want me, but it just made me really happy hearing you talk about our kid. It's all I've ever wanted," he said, tears threatening to spill from his eyes.
