My mother, Zariah and I were seated at a table in the common room. The room was filled with patients and their families. Fellow family members where advised to maintain an indoor voice which reduced the noise that intially occured.

"It's so good to see you." Mom said to Zariah who blushed a little.

"It's good to see you too Mrs Thompson." She replied. She looked at me and I looked away.

"I'm sure both of you can't wait to get out of here. I actually spoke to your mom Riah. She couldn't stop telling me about her visits here with you and how she can't wait for you to return home."

I furrowed my eyebrows and looked to Zariah. She had no emotions on her face, it's like she wasn't even there. Zariah's has never set foot in this place to visit Zariah. Zariah cleared her throat, "Yes ma'am, she visits at least once a month, I really do miss her." She looked down at her fingers and I stared a whole in her head. Zariah refused to tell my mom about the abuse before we were admitted but I was hoping she'd speak up about it while we were in here. She hadn't even told Doctor Brook.

"You'll be home soon Riah." Mom said gently touching her hand. She looked up and smiled at her then looked at me.

"Yeah you'll be home soon Riah." I said mocking Aubrey. I fake smiled at her and she returned the gesture.

"Thank you Mrs Thompson. Hopefully she will allow me to visit you more often."

"You are more than welcome to anytime you want to, I'm sure she won't mind." Zariah just smiled at her. I shook my head in disappointment because I thought this time it was going to be different. We said our goodbyes to Aubrey after she informed us that she'll be picking us early Friday morning then made our way back to the bedroom.

"Why do you keep lying to her?" I asked Zariah. She sat on the bed and looked up at me. "Why do you even care?"

See the thing with Zariah is that she chooses not to address this issue whenever it comes up. She able to solve and resolve other problems or issues but she refuses to deal with this one. I've tried over and over again to try get her to speak about it but always either changes the subject or pretends that I didn't even bring it up.

"Don't do that, you know that I'll always care. You know that my mom will be there for you. You keep digging yourself deeper into this hole, and for what?" I asked her. I watched as she slowly started to turn pink and I wanted to smile because I loved it when she gets angry.

"I already gave you a reason as to why I don't want to tell her! Can you stop brining it up!" She yelled. She looked to the door then took a deep breath.

"But your reason doesn't even make sense Zariah. So what if she finds out your mother is laying her hands on you. She'll be able to help you."

"You'll never understand."

"Then help to understand."

Zariah looked at me and all I saw was defeat and some type of surrender in her eyes. In that moment I wanted to cry because she didn't deserve all of this. It made me angry that she couldn't just open her mouth and say something to someone. I never understood her fear.

"Can we just drop it. I don't want to talk about this anymore." She said laying on her back.

"Okay, have it your way then but at the end of the day I'll be the one saying I told you so." I said as I walked to my side of the room. I heard her mutter a 'Whatever' under her breath.
