When Only Love Remains

The tranquility in the ambience and the serenading warmth from other person made the Surgeon sleep for an hour. Although Wang Yibo's shoulder went numb, he still didn't intend on waking up the peacefully sleeping surgeon. His sleeping face was conveying the fact that he didn't get this kind of contented sleep for ages. And something within Wang Yibo's heart hurt at a mere thought of it.

How was he for the past Thirteen years?

Ding!

A notification sound resonated through the silent atmosphere. It was the Surgeon's phone which pinged with someone's message.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

The subsequent notification followed the first. Not wanting the quietly sleeping Surgeon to get disturbed, he decided to enable the DND mode on Surgeon's smartphone. He slowly shifted the sleeping person's head on his lap. Looking at the last remnant of red clouds near the horizon, he gently massaged his numb arm before placing it carefully on the Surgeon's head.

With one hand, he lightly brushed the soft tresses and with the other he carefully tried to fish out the Surgeon's phone.

Once he got his hands on it, he woke up the dead screen.
'9 new messages from two chats'

The notification popped on the locked screen. Was there any emergency at the hospital? The surgeon indeed had said he has lined up surgeries. But why was he here if he had his schedule?

As Wang Yibo slides the screen to unlock it, the 'enter the pin' popped out. Although he could easily unlock the device with the sleeping surgeon's fingerprint, he decided to try something as a strong memory of their shared past resurfaced freshly in his mind.

He smiled at the past memory before typing away the 4 digit pin. However, the happy smile soon turned into years of longing as the device got unlocked.

Can this be a coincidence? But how can this number be a coincidence? The four digit number was the number of times they made passionate love. And Thirteen years back Xiao Zhan had changed his pin after their possessive sex on his birthday. Wang Yibo had even laughed it off, as to how shameless his love was. But the happy memories they shared back then, brings tears of pain in his eyes today. Only if they hadn't met with that accident that night.. Only if he wasn't distracted that night. Yet, if this was really his Xiao Zhan, he could've recognized him with a mere glance.

Ding!

Another notification sounded, stirring Wang Yibo’s trip down memory lane.

Sliding through the notification center, he opened those two conversations. The topmost one was Ryman. Since it was Ryman, Wang Yibo was sure that there was something which needed the Surgeon's attention.

Hey, where the hell are you? Why did you postpone the surgery? What important work do you have?

Do you want me to take up that surgery if you can't make it on time?

You never acted like this before. Even if you were tired, not well, you never postponed the surgery saying the person's life will be at stake and now look at you!

Are you with that Agent? There is only an hour left for surgery to start. Text me if I should replace you.

Wang Yibo's face twitches after reading the last text. As far as he was feeling guilty for waking the sleeping Surgeon, he couldn't help but to wake him up. For the past few hours, Surgeon didn't get time to rest properly. If he was really his Zhan, then he definitely wouldn't like to put others' lives on stake. Maybe if the Surgeon was really tired, he can himself ask Ryman to take over as delaying surgery was not a better option.
