I watch the clouds as we fly above the horizon. The sun is rising, the clouds look as if they are burning. I smile fondly as I run my hand down my cat's back.
Looking down, into my lap I see my little angel that has brought me so much happiness. He sits in my lap with his eyes closed, purring.
"My little alien.." I coo as I attack behind his ears. He looks up at me as if he understood. I sigh.
"We really are heading to South Korea huh? I think you will like it there. Oppa told me there is a pet cafe near our apartment." I talk to him as I stare out into the endless sky.
"Anything to drink ma'am?" A voice snaps me out of my daze. I shake my head and smile politely.
"Ah no thank you.. I'm okay."
The flight attendant smiles and bows her head, glancing at my cat quickly before walking away. I'm in first class and luckily I'm allowed to have my cat out. This airline is my family's after all.
"Everyone please buckle your seatbelts. We will be landing in Seoul, South Korea in approximately 7 minutes."
The pilot makes an announcement and turns on the belt signal. I'm heading back home for the first time in 6 years. I'm now 24 years old. I moved to the United States to study linguistics. I wanted to study something along the lines of music or art but my father begged me to do something more useful. That doesn't mean I don't have my hobbies of singing, violin, and of course doing pottery. I had been mad at him when I left, I'm hoping maybe he will be easier on me when I get back.
I sigh as I put my seatbelt back on and adjust the cat in my lap.
"Well Tae, looks like there's a whole new adventure waiting for us." He purrs back in response as I smile. My cat's name is Potato, suggested by my friends, but I call him Tae for short. I find it cute.
I carry my bag on my back and hold Potato's carrier in my arms as I make my way to get retrieve my suitcase.
Many looks are thrown my way as I walk confidently towards the exit, rolling my suitcase in one hand and carrying my beloved cat in the other in his carrier. Of course most people were looking at Tae but who wouldn't? He is the most precious thing ever. The attention didn't affect me though. I've always been one to be confident in my looks, maybe a bit cocky. My brother, Seokjin, also is like that, if not worse. I stop at a bench outside waiting for my ride. I place down Tae's carrier and smile at him as he pokes his head against the netting to look at me.
"Ready to meet my family Taetae?"
"Yah! Kim Minseo!"
My head snaps up at the loud voice. My face instantly lights up when I see Jin and his husband standing side by side, waving me over. Jin had gotten married to Kim Namjoon the year I was to leave for college in the states. Jin had been dating Namjoon for 2 years in his college years before they got married when Jin turned 22. He's now 28 and Namjoon is currently 26. I've always loved Namjoon like a brother and he treated me like a sister as well.
"Oppa! Namjoon! Hey!!" I shout back happily as I gather my things and rush over. I'm enveloped in a tight hug the minute I place my bags down."Wah~ it's been too long! Look at how much you've grown!" Jin marvels over me and examines me up and down. "You look just like mom.."
My eyes soften at the mention of the woman that raised me. Mother died 8 years ago, when I was in my junior year of high school. She died of breast cancer and had never stopped fighting until her last breath.
"Thank you Oppa.. oh! This is Potato! You guys haven't met y-" I'm cut off as both Namjoon and Jin squat down to eye level with Tae and coo.
"What a handsome cat!" Namjoon smiles, dimples and all. I chuckle while Jin pouts.
"Yah! What about me.." Jin whines. Namjoon sighs and smiles at Jin.
"Of course you are handsome too Jin. You're #1 in my eyes." Namjoon reassures Jin sweetly. Jin huffs and looks back at Tae.
"We've heard so much about you Potato! Thank you for keeping our Minseo so happy." Jin looked up at me and stood up with a smile. I return the smile as I felt tears sting my eyes.
"I've missed you Oppa.." I swing my one free arm around Jin's neck and sniffle. He places his arms around me and pats my back.
"I've missed you too sweetheart.. Yah, you should've visited years ago!" He pulls away to scold me. I chuckle and roll my eyes.
"You know why I haven't visited.. how has he been?" I look up at Jin cautiously. He smiles sadly.
"He's been better.. he has become more distant when you left. You were the last thing that really reminded him of mom Minseo you know that. Of course I'm here but.. we all know you were his favorite child."
I chuckle and nod. "Well it's too bad that I'm too rebellious for my own good." Jin ruffles my hair and takes my suitcase.
"Let's head over to your apartment now hm? Maybe catch up over some ice cream and pancakes?" Jin smiles and I nod eagerly. Just like old times.
I stare up at my new apartment building in awe. Jin bought this building and renovated it to be one of the best. He also lives in the apartment right across from mine with Namjoon.
"Ready for this Tae?" I glance down at the carrier in my hand. He lets out a vocal meow causing me to chuckle. "Of course you are, adventurous troublemaker."
I stand before my apartment door with sparkling eyes. Namjoon passes me the keys and I bite my lip in anticipation.
Fitting the key into the lock hole, I turn the key and hear a click. Holding my breath as I grip the door handle, I creak open the door to a light filled room with a surprise.
"WELCOME BACK!!!"
