"Appa! Are you home?" I call out into the large empty house. I spot a few maids but no one that is particularly interested in my arrival.

Flashback

"Oh come on Minseo, please can you talk to him?" Jin begs me. I sigh and put my book aside.

"I want to Oppa but.. I'm just scared. What if he is still the same?"

"Well then that's his loss! He's getting a second chance to win his daughter back. Appa may have become a rude man but he still loves his children." He says in a wary voice. I raise an eyebrow.

"Fine. I'll talk to him tomorrow." I huff as I pick my book back up to read. Jin jumps up and rushes out of the room. I hear his footsteps retreating back to my room.

"I really do believe that he is willing to accept your choices in life." Jin smiles as he pops his head in to reassure me. I chuckle and wave him away.

End of Flashback

"Hello? Appa are you in.. Oh!" I stand up straight when I spot my father sitting at his desk, his back to me. I clear my throat and close the office doors behind me. I stand awkwardly and call out to him. "Hello?"

My father sighs loudly before speaking up.

"I told you maids to stay out of my office during work hours! How many time do I have to repeat myself? Must you push me to fire yet another- M-minseo?" He stops yelling once he turns his chair around and meets me face to face. I smile politely.

"Hello father.." I bow at a 90 degree angle. I glance up and see him staring at me with a blank expression.

"Why are you here? I thought you said you were leaving and never coming back."

I fidget in my spot while I prepare myself to speak.

"I decided to move back.. I'm living in an apartment in Oppa's building. I thought I should come to make up with you.. I didn't want to leave things so bad between us.." I mutter quietly. He looks at me softly and waves me over with his hand. I gladly step towards his desk and take a seat.

He sighs and smiles.

"Finally, I knew you would come to your senses."

What?

"What do you mean father?" I furrow my brows and wait for his answer.

He chuckles again.

"Oh don't play stupid with me Minseo.. you can be honest. You finally realized your silly dreams of becoming an artist or musician were nonsense and came to apologize. Business is really what you need."

My heart stops. He hasn't changed..

I stand abruptly. He looks at me confused and startled.

"It isn't a stupid dream father. And I'm not here to apologize. I came for your apology. I thought maybe you would've been more accepting but no.." I turn on my heel and strut towards the door.

"You dare leave this room without admitting you are being childish, you aren't in this family anymore. Just like your brother."

I freeze. Just like my brother?

"What..?" I turn my head slowly. My father smirks.

"Didn't he tell you? He demanded I disown him. He couldn't live with the arranged marriage I had for him and instead went for that other man. Claiming that he was gay." He says smugly, knowing he has my attention.

Jin left the family? Why didn't he tell me? Wait.. but Father never approved of him coming out?

Anger starts to boil inside me.

"You are a horrible father."

His face becomes strict and red.

"You abandoned your first child? You couldn't accept who he was?! You can't accept who I am?! Not everything can go your way! You can't control the world!" I yell at him, fighting my tears that dare to sting my eyes.

"No! You two just can't deal with accepting your responsibilities! You humiliated me! I can't even pass down my business to my children because they have their heads up in LaLaLand!" He barked back, now standing up.

"We were born like this! It's who we are! Why won't you just accept that! Accept your only children for who they are and what they want to be.." I start to break down. He scowls at me.

"You were fine before that witch put ideas in your head. Saying to do whatever you want in life. That you can face the impossible."

My breath got caught in my throat. Witch... he is blaming mother now??

"HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT MY MOTHER LIKE THAT! Your deceased wife! Who fought until her end while you did nothing! You let her die and then let your children fend for themselves!" I scream and cry. "Mother raised us. You never did. All you did was work! When we needed you most you would shut us out! Then all of a sudden you act as if we are so special when all you need is for us to be your work puppets!"

I pause and let my sobs subside. Roughly wiping my tears, I turn and take hold of the door handle.

"Disown me. See how much I care. To me, you are dead. You are not my father." I snarl before slamming the door closed behind me.

I throw my bag aside and storm to my room. Throwing myself onto my bed, I let myself go.

Everything hurt. Why didn't Jin tell me about what happened with Father? Why did he make me go talk to him? Why is Father like this? He dared to call mother such a name...

As I'm sobbing into my pillow, I hear a loud cry. I glance up and sniffle.

"Oh Tae... everything was better in America.. I didn't have to face my problems.." I scoop him up in my arms and hug him close as he comforts me. He lets out another meow, as if he were talking back to me. I chuckle as I wipe my tears. "Yeah.. I guess I was just running away. My problems had to be faced sooner or later."

I lay down on my side and let Tae cuddle up against my chest. I sigh, my muscles relaxing and my breathing steadying.

"Thank you Tae.. you are always here for me.. it's like you have a solution for everything." I close my eyes and talk softly. I hear and feel the vibrations of his purring.

I kiss his head.

"I love you Tae.. what would I ever do without you..."
