Richie slowly touched his face, and winced as he felt the gash that Henry had left on his right cheek.
"Oh god oh god oh shit oh no oh god." he heard a small voice say. He recognized it as the same voice he had heard earlier, the voice that sounded perfect to him. He slowly opened his eyes. His breath caught in his chest as he saw who the voice belonged to. There was a short boy kneeling next to him. His short brown hair swept across his forehead, his sunkist face spotted with freckles. He was wearing a yellow polo shirt and high waisted blue jeans. He looked up to meet the boy's eyes and felt his stomach churn. This time, he knew that they were definitely butterflies.
"You didn't have to do that ya know, now he's gonna be after you too." The small boy said softly, reaching for something in his small red fanny pack. Richie desperately found his breath as he watched the small boy's face start to flush. He felt his face do the same as an inhaler fell out of the boy's small, perfect hand. The boy picked it up and pushed the trigger whilst wheezing.
"Well I couldn't just ignore the helpless kid that was sprawled out on the ground ya know Wheezy." Richie smirked.
"I'm not helpless, and don't call me Wheezy." the boy replied, a playful frown on his face.
"But I don't know your name Wheezy, what else would I call you?" Richie teased.
"My name's Eddie Kaspbrak, what's yours Trashmouth?" Eddie responded.
Richie smiled at the newfound nickname. "My names-" he froze as Eddie placed his small hand on Richie's face, sticking a bandaid over the cut on his face. His hands were soft, and Richie felt as if fireworks shot off in his head. It took a lot to resist from leaning into the touch.
"Uh, Richie Tozier." he finally finished.
"Well, Richie, thank you for standing up for me, nobody ever does that." Eddie offered Richie a hand and he took it. He felt shocks of comforting energy shooting up his arm. Richie's face turned bright red, and so did Eddie's.
Did he feel it too? Richie thought. Stop it Richie, he didn't, and your not...gay.
At least, he thought so. He had never had a crush on a girl in his 15 years of life, he just thought they were pretty. This boy... Eddie. Eddie was perfect. Was there a possibility that he was gay? He quickly got rid of this thought. He pulled his hand away. Eddie looked up at him and Richie felt his breath hitch. Eddie had the most deep brown eyes, with specks of hazel scattered throughout the darkness, that caught the light as his eyes shifted.
Like constellations, Richie thought.
"Well Eds, I've gotta get to my next class now, see ya."
"I told you my name and you still have to go with a nickname?' Eddie said as he scrunched his nose, his internal thoughts having panic attacks over how excited he was that the cute new kid had given him a nickname.
"Aw, but you love it Eds," Richie said, giving the boy puppy dog eyes and shooting him a wink.
Eddie blushed and pushed his hair behind his ears.
Yep, I'm definitely gay. Richie thought as he turned around and started walking to class.
