THE COOL BREEZE of the morning awakens me. I don't even have to check my calendar to see what day it is. It's the day before Reaping day. Reaping day is an event that takes place in every district before each Hunger Games, where the tributes of the upcoming Games are chosen. Each district's escort randomly chooses the name of one male and one female tribute from two separate glass balls. The ages can range from twelve to eighteen.

The Reaping isn't fair though. If your poorer, than you have a better chance of getting picked. Last year, was Gale's name was in forty-two times. He didn't get picked through. Last year was the seventy-third games, where the infamous Katniss and Peeta's games were.

The games have a strict rule. Only one victor. This has been the rule for the past seventy-two games. In Katniss and Peeta's games, they were in love. They both threatened to kill themselves, and leave them with no victor. The head gamemaker knew that Snow would kill him for this, so he announced that they were both victors.

I may have only been fourteen then, but I'm not an idiot. I saw the way that Katniss looked at my brother. I saw the way that Gale flinched when they kissed. I knew that Katniss was in love with Gale, and I knew that Gale was in love with her.

I was never fond of Katniss Everdeen. She didn't like me very much. One day, Gale took me hunting with him and Katniss. I'm not a very good hunter. I can set snares, and I'm decent with a bow. Katniss did things that you can just tell meant she didn't like you. When I would be about to shoot something, she would accidentally step on some leaves or something. I've also heard her complain to Gale about how bad I was. I haven't been hunting since.

Peeta Mellark was a different story. Peeta was a pretty likable guy. I always waved to him when I passed the bakery, and sometimes we sat together at lunch. We helped each other study for tests, but I won't have him anymore. He dropped out of school after the games.
