4.5| The Sofa?

Newt's life seemed to be made up of awkward and embarrassing moments, but today may have been the most uncomfortable moment he has ever experienced.

His mind seemed to be stuck on a loop of the events of last night. He could feel Tina's slightly amused stare on him, entertained by his uneasiness. All he wanted to do was to disappear into thin air.

The man whose house they were staying in had offered for them to stay for breakfast, which Tina gladly accepted without consulting Newt, who wanted to get going as soon as possible.

Murray, the owner of the house, was now standing in the kitchen a few feet from Newt and Tina's awkwardness at the table, stirring a pan of scrambled eggs.

He sat down at the head of the table, and plopped a plate of eggs and bacon in front of the pair. Letting out a sigh as he sat down in his chair, Newt began to hurriedly eat his eggs, giving him an awkward smile and nod of thanks. Tina and Newt shared a moment of awkward eye contact, and Murray noticed this, glancing knowingly at the two of them.

"So... Newt," he said, breaking the tension-filled silence.

Newt sipped his drink nervously, in a haste to hide the nervous expression on his face, afraid of what he was going to bring up next.

"How was the pullout?" he asked flatly.

Newt then proceeded to choke on his drink mid-sip, completely in disbelief at his rudeness.

Tina looked down at her plate with wide eyes, and drew in a sharp intake of breath, completely bewildered.

"Uh, sorry?" Newt stuttered as politely as he could.

Murray gave him a fake innocent look as he said,

"The sofa?"

Completely forgotten that the bed he was supposed to be sleeping on last night, instead of Tina's bed, was actually a pullout sofa, Newt simply said,

"Oh yeah. Yeah, It was- it was good,"

"I bet," Murray said mischievously as Tina grinned at Newt and then back at the table as she slowly chewed a mouthful of eggs, internally laughing at Newt's continued awkwardness, and was silently relieved Murray didn't mean what she thought he did.

Murray then brought his fork which was loaded with food to his mouth, but just before he was about to eat it, the food fell to the ground with a small 'plop'.

'Oops..." he grinned at Newt maliciously.

As he sipped the remainder of his drink, Tina raised her eyebrows at Newt before smirking back down at her eggs.
