"You ready?"
I sighed, curling the last piece of my hair. I didn't know if I was ready. I mean, sure, I was ready appearance wise. But I didn't know if I was ready mentally for what's been planned tonight.
Kissing my cheek, Justin rested his chin on my shoulder. "You'll love it. I promise."
He grabbed my hand and walked out of the hotel room, shutting it behind him. I bit my lip, following closely behind him down the hallway. I guess the fact that I was nervous was obvious because Justin couldn't seem to let it go.
"Relax, will you?"
I rolled my eyes. "It's not that simple."
"Just trust me."
I don't think he knew what he said. I felt my throat get scratchy just at how uncomfortable that made me. I think he realized right after he said it, too, because he slowed his walking.
"I didn't mean it like that-"
"I know. Let's just go." I walked in front of him, leaving him in the dust. I didn't want to talk about the fact that Justin lied because I didn't like to. I don't truly trust him, and that's what makes me rethink everything. It makes me wonder why I'm even with him, because lying over something that big was unacceptable. I'm the one who keeps running back to him, which makes me look stupid.
"Jess, stop-"
"Stop what?" I opened the door to his car. "I'm fine."
"You think I believe that?"
"Just let it go," I buckled my seatbelt.
He closed his mouth, starting the car. Pulling out of the parking lot, we were heading off to wherever this night was taking us.
It was getting dark outside. I couldn't think of one thing that Justin could do for me that would be this much more special than all of the other things we've done together. Why was this so important?
"It's gonna be a little bit of a drive," he said, his hand finding its way to mine.
I gave him the biggest glare i could muster. "Why didn't we just drive there last night instead of here then?"
"I wanted to take you to that cliff. Besides, it's not nearly as long as the ride here was. I just need to figure out where I'm going and how I'm going to get there. Okay?"
I sighed, leaning my head back against the headrest. "Shit, my phones almost dead."
"Your phone charger's in the back seat still if you want to go back and get it."
I unbuckled my seatbelt, climbing over the chair and into the back. "I can't find it," I called while Justin's eyes remained on the road.
"Check under the seat."
I got on my knees, pushing my purse that was on the floor out of the way. I shuffled through some things, trying my hardest to see under the dark seat. I touched something sharp, making me hiss slightly. There was a small cut on my finger from what I just touched, but I had no idea what it was. I turned my head around to make sure Justin didn't hear me. When I saw his eyes still fixed on the road, I took that as my cue to find out what the heck was under here.
I found my phone charger, but that's obviously not what cut me. There was the usual junk that I'm pretty sure everyone has in their car, but nothing that seemed too dangerous.
I had almost cleaned out the entire space under the seat before a glare shined into my eyes, making me squint to try and decipher what it was.
I gripped it, and it definitely was sharp. There was something gooey and slimy on it, which felt disgusting, but I still proceeded to pull it out.
