Alfie's POV

It wasn't long after I woke up that I fell back to sleep again. My leg felt crushed and I had a throbbing headache, so I thought that if I rested, the pain might go away. I had no idea where and when it was, well I'd assumed I was in hospital, which was worrying me slightly.

When I woke up properly, I opened my eyes to see my mum sitting beside me.
"What time is it?" I could barely speak and even though I'd been asleep for who knows how long, I felt exhausted nonetheless.
"Six thirty," I heard a familiar voice say, "I'll just go and get the nurse, tell her you're awake. You had an operation on your leg earlier, I was worrying like mad." I felt my fingers reach down for my leg. It was still there, thank god, but there was something inside, something solid-
"Alfie, you're awake, finally," a too-jolly-for-a-hospital woman said, "all I need you to do is tell me how you are and then we can see when you may leave." What I wanted to say was for her to shut up, but I fought the temptation.
"I'm feeling okay, I guess."
"Wonderful, absolutely wonderful," she was really getting on my nerves now, "I'll just have a quick word with my colleague then I'll explain to you what happened!"

The 'quick word' was more of a twenty minute long discussion, by that time even my mum was getting a bit frustrated.
"If she doesn't come back in the next thirty seconds I'll let you leave myself," she said sharply. Suddenly, my thoughts came to Zoe. I shot up in panic, which made my mum's eyes widen with fear.
"Are you okay?" she said alarmingly.
"Is Zoe alright?"
"Alfie I have no idea who 'Zoe' is. Although come to think of it the nurse did tell me that a girl who was also in the crash asked if you were good..."
"Can you call her? Did the hospital give you her number?"
"Well I think so," she pulled out a crinkled piece of paper from her pocket, "ah yes, Zoe Sugg. Would you like me to call her?"
"Yes."
"Okey dokey." The phone rung for ages then went onto voicemail, where my mum left a message, who then shot me a disappointed look.
"She'll call back, don't you worry," she quickly reassured.

After the nurse returned, she told me part of my leg collapsed, therefore they needed to reinforce it with metal poles. In a few weeks these would be removed and voila, my leg would be fixed.

But throughout the conversation my mind kept flickering to one thought: Zoe.
