I saw a girl sit next to a window, staring at the moon. She looked sad and lonely, her green eyes filled with longing. The room was small and had almost nothing in it, except for a window and a plate of untouched food. I watched as the girl suddenly gasped. Her dark hair was turning white. Just then, I heard footsteps echoing across the corridor. I could tell from her expression that she'd heard it too. She turned around to the entrance which was barred so she couldn't get out.
A bulky man appeared and laughed, noticing her white hair. "Finally! It's finally happened, hasn't it? I hope you know what's going to happen to you..", he said, grinning. The girl said nothing.

More footsteps. A tall man with a white cloak appeared. He looked into the cell at the girl, who cowered away from his very glance. He smiled menacingly, satisfied with what he was seeing. "Marqus, open the cell!", he ordered. The bulky man, Marqus, obeyed, watching in excitement. There was the clink from the keys as they hit against the metal, and the cell was open. The girl moved further away till her back hit the hard wall behind her. She looked scared. The tall man walked towards her slowly, taking his time.
"You've finally turned, haven't you?", he asked. The girl said nothing again. "You're a quiet thing, aren't you?", he asked, his red eyes flashing. She closed her eyes and it looked like she knew what was going to happen.

"I will never tell you what you want to know...", she said, closing her eyes. The man waved his hand, his mouth curling into a vicious snarl. The room was illuminated by an ugly black light that blinded my eyes. The girl looked up with tears flowing down her cheeks, and cried out as the light hit her with its force. Her screams resounded across the room until they were reduced to muffled sobs. The man looked down at her and snorted. "That was easy", he said, and walked back, shutting the cell with a loud bang. Marqus locked it silently while looking at the girl. She lay there, her body shaking from the pain. Marqus sneered and followed the tall man, whistling.

I opened my eyes and saw Viva watching me. I looked down at the carvings that had appeared on her scales and saw what I had seen in the memory. The carvings were more intricate than ever before as they flitted across her body. The girl was laughing and running in one, but in the next, she was shaking uncontrollably, sobbing. Her green eyes had lost their playfulness. They looked sad, as if she was carrying the weight of the whole world on her shoulders. Viva nudged my hand and looked down at another carving on her neck. I sat down next to her on the bed and placed my hands on the carving, which had started to disappear. The girl was starting to fade away, till she melted into nothingness. Her playful laughter filled the room. Viva rested her head against my shoulder and closed her eyes and before I knew it, she was asleep.

The carvings disappeared from her body as she slept. I touched the black star on her forehead, wondering if they would reappear, but nothing happened. I sighed, then jumped, suddenly aware of Archer's presence outside the room. I hugged Viva close, trying not to think about how scared I was even thinking about him. My eyes went to the gap between the floor and the door. He wasn't moving. He was just standing there.
I didn't get up, afraid that if he saw my shadow, he would open the door and enter.
So I just sat there on the bed with Viva silently, till he moved away from the door. I breathed a sigh of relief, wondering how long I would live in fear of him like this.

The room was growing darker by the second. I looked out at the moon. The girl had just turned, which meant she had only been thirteen then. My mind was racing. They'd tortured her to get information out of her, but she'd refused, even when she knew she would pay for it. Everything about her seemed familiar. It was like I knew her well, but I'd never even met her. I stroked Viva's scales absently, thinking about the girl.
I watched as a few clouds gathered around the moon, covering it. The room was enveloped in darkness. The trees started to whisper all of a sudden, sending my mind into spirals. They screeched and shook, and I tried to listen to its whispers. The wind howled in my ears, but to my surprise, Viva slept soundly thought it all.

"child of the forest, you are in danger"

The trees shook even more, and the wind howled louder, repeating their whispers. I covered my ears, trying to block them out. I heard shrill screams and wails of terror. I shut my eyes tightly, trying to escape the darkness. The darkness crawled deeper into me, till I felt like I couldn't breathe. I put a hand to my throat and realised that I was sweating profusely. I gasped, opening my eyes.

Just then, a pair of green eyes appeared at the window, and I covered my mouth to stop myself from screaming out loud. I saw a pair of hands clutch the steel bars attached to the window. Next to me I felt Viva shift as she opened her eyes, suddenly alert. She looked at the figure that stood next to the window, staring it down. The hands left the steel bars and whoever it was, slipped away into the night, turning back to look straight at me once more, green eyes flashing.
