Chapter 50

Sunrise

Seeing Langston's dim expression and Keaton's trembling hands, I knew at that moment that the person who just arrived wasn't just an employee or someone who they should take easy on.

There was only one time that I'd witnessed how conflicted these brothers were. It was the day when my father died.

And for Pete's sake, it's just almost 5 AM!

Langston took his breath, and he gentle massage his right temple, as his other hand went into his waist. "I know... I heard the news. But I am so sorry... this is really urgent, Kuya."

Sa akin na mismo tumingin si Langston. Wala na ako sa sariling napatango. I already promised myself that I'd bravely face Keaton's secrets, and I will stick to him no matter what happens.

Isa na ang pagkakataong ito.

"S-Shanti..."

Lumingon akong muli kay Keaton. I forced a smile at him. "It's okay."

He nodded. "I'll be right back."

"Keep safe."

"What happened?"

"Business."

I could still remember some scenes which gave me ideas that my mother had an idea about Keaton's real business.

All those years, we never had a conversation about our father's death. It was like a silent agreement between us. All we had to do was to strive hard and become successful.

We all knew that our father was involved with something illegal that caused his early death. It wasn't clear about Keaton's connection, but shouldn't I hear another side of the story?

Last three years ago, I blamed Keaton's love for me. My sisters blamed me, and my mother blamed herself.

Now that we're all healed, and had years to breathe freely away from pain, maybe this is really the right time to face those doors that we refused to open last three years ago.

They witnessed how I fell in love with Keaton, how I fought the urge to fall for him, and how I tried to sabotage him before.

"A-Are you sure about this?" Ate Aliyah forced her smile.

I knew that their reaction a while ago was genuine. They were both happy that I got my man back after all those years, but I knew that there's a little voice screaming at the back of their minds who wanted to stop me for a moment.
