CHAPTER TWO: Dementors
September 1st
Climbing out of bed, I tiptoed around the cannibalistic book that was jammed shut with one of my dad's old belts. Changing into a pair of black jogging bottoms, a white tank top and a pair of vans – I pulled my trunk down the stairs.
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thu -
Turning around, gran had her wand pointed at the trunk as she finished pinning her hat in place. Pulling on my now floating suitcase I forced it down by the fireplace next to Neville's. For September, it was still warm – as a precaution I put my quidditch jumper in my bag with my folded uniform. I didn't trust British weather, one minute it's nineteen degrees the next it's minus six and hail.
Clipping on Drizella's lead to her harness, we stood in the kitchen waiting for Neville and Gran. Holding Trevor in his cage, Neville tied it to the top of his trunk as he stuffed one of Grans knitted jumped in his trunk quickly.
"Time to go." Gran said," Did you leave the –"
"The sweets for mum and the cards for dad? " I asked as we packed the luggage into the fireplace," They are on the mantle."
Gran gave a tight smile, "I'm sorry we couldn't visit but your parents were close to Black once – didn't want to risk it."
"It's fine," Neville said.
"Could you tell us more about the Order one day?" I asked putting my guitar case on my back, "Especially about the man with the scarred face."
Gran nodded," Sure hon,"
"What man?" Neville asked as we stood in the fireplace.
I shrugged," I don't know – he just pops up in my mind sometimes, he's the one who took me from the Wearhouse when –"
Neville put his hand on my shoulder, "It's ok – maybe we'll find out who he is one day."
"Hope so." I sighed. Then incident in the Wearhouse has been on my mind all summer since Black escaped. He was in the Order with my parents – they weren't friends in school but they became close during the war – same with James Potter. Mum was always friends with Lily as they shared a dorm in the 70s.
"Kings Cross station."
I dropped the powder as Neville, Drizella and I where take-up in the green flames. We stopped spinning after a couple of seconds as the busy London train station came into view. Pulling everything out of the fireplace, we found an abandoned luggage trolley.
As Gran materialised in the fire next, we walked down Platform mine. It was busy with new and returning students – some looked around for the mystical platform with their parents. Hermione waved as she said good-bye to her parents on the other side of the barrier.
Taking the trolley – Drizella jumped on to the luggage as we, Neville and I, pushed the trolley towards the wall.
On the other side – the familiar scarlet engine came into view with the gold and black trims - Hogwarts was written in gold paint with the crest in cast iron at the front."Celie!" Isabelle yelled from a compartment with Mandy and sue," How was your summer?"
"It was good!" I shouted back
She smiled," So you feel any better?"
"Think so, won't know till later." I shruggedWalking deeper on to the platform, I gave Hadleigh a wave as she stood with her parents; I followed my brother to drop our luggage off at the cargo hold.
Finding an empty compartment, instead of finding anyone I knew – I opened a book and curled up with Drizella.
"Cellie?" Hadleigh asked as she sat down," You ok?"
I looked up," Sure, I think."
"What's up?"
"I don't know." I confessed shutting the book," Maybe tragedy just follows me like a plague."
Hadleigh smile as she passed over a box of bonbons," I doubt that – Isabelle, Anthony, Rob and Adrian are looking for you."
I sighed," Ok."
Hadleigh stepped out for a second to beckon them over, Adrian hugged me before he sat down next to Robb opening a yoghurt. Isabelle and Anthony squeezed in somehow ad Drizella was taking up most of the space in the compartment.
"What is that?" I asked, noticing a shiny shield on Adrian's chest.
Adrian smirked, "I am your new sixth-year prefect."
"That's it." Isabelle smirked, "We are done for."
Adrian pointed his spoon at her," Hope dear Iza, will not kill you."
For a while we talked, I say we, they talked – I listened.
Robb went over the quidditch plays for this year, we had to fill in for a seeker and a beater after Elliot and Saffron left.
During the summer, Elliot took on a job as a quidditch reporter – so he travelled the globe writing articles on the matches he saw.
As we crossed the border into Scotland, I picked up my bag and went to the girl's toilets at the other end of the carriage.
Changing quickly into my uniform, leaving my tie around my shoulder on top of my black cardigan as I wandered back towards the compartment.
Halfway back, it suddenly got extremely cold. Pulling the sleeves down on my cardigan – I watched the windows of the carriage freeze. My hand touched the unfrozen part of the window, but the glass wasn't cold.
Turning around to go back the way I came, a black ripped cloaked figure stood by the door of the carriage. Backing away, I made myself as small as I could.
It was up in my face, it's hood only showing the bottom of its face; I felt my body go rigid as I couldn't look away from its mouth.
It didn't go on for long, as soon as it started – it stopped.
I didn't move at the creature moved on to the next compartment; hugging my knees to my chest, I buried my face in my knees.
"Cel? You ok?"
I nodded, not looking up.
"Get Neville."
Looking up when I felt a hand on my knee, Draco was sitting on the floor with me keeping an eye on the black-cloaked figure.
"Why are you here?" I asked quietly.
Draco looked over at me," Because you need it."
"I can look after myself."
He nods," I know, but everyone needs help – even the smartest among us."
"Draco?" Blaise said as my brother and Dean stood with him.
Draco nodded standing up letting Neville and Dean pick me up off the floor.
"Where's your compartment? "Dean asked as he took my arm
"Down the hall," I whispered stumbling forward.
Neville knocked on the door where Hadleigh was sitting with a very shaken up Isabelle. Taking my hand, Adrian helped me sit down next to Drizella in the corner – Neville and Dean stayed for a while before having to go back to their compartment to get changed.
A man with a scarred face poked his head around the door," Was anyone harmed?"
"Just Celyn and Isabelle," Adrian spoke, with his hand on my forehead.
swatting him off I looked at the man," I'm fine."
Isabelle nodded," It was just cold."
The man nodded handing us both a square of chocolate," Eat this, if you excuse me."
Taking the chocolate from him with a smile, I nibbled on it as I tried to warm up.
"Who do you suppose he is?" Robb asked.
Hadleigh shrugged," New teacher?"
Isabelle looked at them," Hope so, he looked like he knew what he was doing – can't imagine Lockhart or Quirrell doing that if this happened."The boys left the compartment to find the others in their year, leaving Hadleigh and Isabelle to get changed as the train neared the platform.
Hadleigh, Isabelle and I ran to the nearest carriage – Drizella shucks out her fur in the confined space, looking at us innocently as we sat covered in water. Waving my wand, I used the same spell Gran uses to dry the washing in winter.
The carriage door opened again as Draco, Blaise, Crabbe and Goyle squeezed in – Drizella ended up laying on top of me; making breathing very difficult.
"Why does it smell like wet dog?" Crabbe asked sniffing the air.
Looking around the dog, I creased my eyebrows," You for real?"
Isabelle scratched under Drizella chin," I thought Slytherin's where supposed to be shrewd and be a little smart?
Draco hit his friends upside the head," There is a letteral dog in the carriage."
Crabbe shrugged," Could be a disguise."
Goyle nodded at his friend as they disused it between then.
Hadleigh looked at Blaise and Draco," And I thought I needed better friends – yours are missing half a brain."Only half?" I asked.
