Sometimes, Lyra didn't think things through. This was one of those times.

"W-what?" Lyra questioned, shocked.

Lily sighed rolling her eyes as she exclaimed a little louder. "Jesus, I'm gay, Lyra!"

"Wha-bu-you" Lyra stammered through her words, trying to grasp what her friend had said. Of course, she didn't mind if Lily liked girls, what she struggled to comprehend was why James out of everyone was the first to know and was helping her out.

"Lyra, maybe we should talk in private," James suggested, not giving the black-haired girl an option and dragging her out of the Main Hall.

"Look, I'm sorry if I was out of line-"

"You really think," He interrupted, taking a step towards her as she took a step back, her back hitting the wall. "That I'd kiss you, not talk to you in two weeks and start dating Lily?" He sounded hurt rather than angry as he stared into her grey eyes with his hazel ones.

"I-I don't know." Lyra shrugged. "What I was I supposed to think? You never wrote, not even once. Hell, even Peter sent a letter." She scoffed. "And then I get here, you don't talk to me and spend more time with Lily than with the boys." She sucked in a breath as her eyes began to water. "I'm not mad at the fact that you love her, James. I knew you did since the very beginning and I knew what I was getting my self in to. I'm just mad because I believed what you said about not hurting me. You could've told me you didn't like me back and-"

"-I love you."

Lyra fell silent.

"You what?"

James sighed, rubbing his face. "I love you, you idiot." He repeated, heart beating so fast he thought it would burst. "I don't love Lily, not anymore."

"James-"

"-You know," He interrupted once more. "My life was perfectly fine before you, or rather, it made sense, ya know? But then you waltz in, turn everything upside down and confuse the hell out of me."

Lyra gulped.  "Must be horrible."

James nodded, staring tiredly at her. "The worst."

"If what you say is true, why have you been ignoring me?" She questioned, furrowing her eyebrows. "Do you know how hard it's been not talking to you?"
