I woke up late. It was a rainy Saturday, which I always considered an excuse for a lazy day. I sat up on my bed, stretched and glanced out the window. The rain was streaming down the glass, the sky's cloudy and the streets a bit less hectic. I could hear the sound of the rain from each drop on my window sill. It soothed me. I was stressed about work, about not having friends, about money. The list was endless, but considering I spontaneously left my hometown and everything behind me, I was clearly on a journey of living in the moment and taking risks. It was way too early to be thinking about my worries, so I got up and put the kettle on. I got my coffee cup out of the cupboard and realized I had no coffee. The most essential part of my morning routine. I threw on some sweats, a bra, and decided the rain couldn't stop me from my morning necessity. I grabbed my keys and headed out the door. I locked my door behind me and as I turned around, there she was. The breathtaking and mysterious woman from the park. My heart rate sped up and I had to force words out my mouth.

"Hey!" That was all I could think of.

"Hey, how are ya?" She calmly said as she passed by me.

I was not going to let that pathetic greeting be our interaction.

"Where are you heading out on this rainy day?" I asked, making her walk match my slower pace.

"I have to get a few things from the store down the street. A little wetness never hurt anybody." She glanced at me with a smirk.

I felt my body react to what she said in her flirty tone.

"I have to go to the store too. Desperate coffee times call for desperate measures."

She let out a little chuckle to my statement.

"I never got your name by the way." I said after a few seconds of silence.

"Jessie." The raven haired revealed.

"Skylar." I introduced myself.

We got to the lobby doors and both prepared to get soaking wet. We took our deep breaths and headed out into the torrential downpour. The store was only a couple blocks away but in heavy rain, a couple blocks felt like miles. We walked side by side and with every step the rain got more and more heavy. The cars we're driving by us carelessly, splashing puddles up every few seconds.

We reached the store after what felt like forever. We were both soaked, luckily it was a warm rain. She opened the store door for me to enter first. She had grabbed what she needed, as did I, and she stood behind me in the cashier line. I had placed my coffee on the counter and reached for my wallet. Which actually turned out to be my non-existent wallet.

"Shit, I forgot my wallet." I was in such a hurry to get coffee I forgot to grab it on the way out.

"Here put it with my stuff." Jessie said as she was placing her items on the counter.

"No you don't have to do that! I can just go back and grab it." I didn't want her to pay for me.

"It's three dollars and pissing rain. Don't worry about it." She insisted as she paid for her stuff and mine.

"Thank you. You have to let me repay you. I mean, you have already given me directions on my first day and now paid for my coffee." I smiled.

"You're right. I'm a saint. But no repayment is necessary. Don't sweat it." She smiled back.

"Well, thank you. I'll find a way to show my appreciation." I debuted her stubbornness.

Jessie was nice. She had a rough exterior and a sort of standoffish vibe but, she seemed very down to earth and real. Intuition was one of my positive traits and although I found her undeniably stunning and rough around the edges, I couldn't read her.

My thoughts were cut short when I realized I'd been staring at her like an idiot. Luckily, she didn't notice as she grabbed the grocery bag with our stuff together and we both headed out the door.

The rain was still apparent but lighter now. We walked a lot slower on the way back, as if we were now immune to the rain or maybe we just enjoyed each other's company. She seemed so cool and calm. She was confident yet closed off. I didn't know what was going on with me but I was so attracted to her. I had no idea if she even liked girls. I knew nothing about her but for some reason I wanted to learn.

We got closer and closer to our apartment and there was a pulling sensation in me that didn't want it to end. It was a rainy boring day with nothing to do so, I thought I'd try to slip in a little extra time with her.

"Wanna grab something to eat? I'm starving." I hoped she would agree.

"I should probably get these groceries in the fridge." She answered hesitantly.

Something in her eyes shifted as if she we're debating something internally.

"Okay. Some other time." I was disappointed but I also didn't want to come off as pushy or weird I mean, I did just meet her.

We reached our apartments. You could tell we were both relieved to get dry and out of that rain. We headed to the elevator still dripping water everywhere..

"What floor are you?" I asked.

"7. Same as you." She smiled.

"Well don't we have a lot in common. The day in the park we were reading the same book, we like the same pizza place, and live on the same floor." It was very ironic to me.

"Lucky me." She had a tone that kept me interested yet her facial expression remained blank.

We reached our floor and exited the elevator. I approached my apartment door reluctantly and gave her one last glance.

"This is me." I stopped in front of my unit.

"Here." She spoke as she reached in the bag and handed me the coffee she so generously bought me.

"Well, Jessie, it was nice officially meeting you. Thanks again for the coffee." I decided not to keep her.

"Bye Skylar. See you around." She smiled and kept walking.

I watched her walk down the hall. She entered her unit that was, of course, only four doors down. It was like someone was trying to torture me by rubbing a stunning yet possibly unattainable woman in my face. I felt cursed and lucky all at the same time.
