"Give me the book or I will kill her" the man screamed.
Jade felt herself trapped in water and couldn't breathe, a woman holding what looked like the book of destiny looked between Jade and the man. Jade took note of the fact that the man's arm was made of metal and had some small lights on it. The woman nodded to Jade as she erupted in fire.
"EMBRACE THE UNKNOWN!"Jade woke with a start as she gasped for air. Her dream had felt so real that it took her a minute to remind herself she wasn't trapped in water. Jade stood up and looked around camp, the faint embers left in the fire gave an indication that it was not fed in over an hour. She saw everyone else asleep, recovering from the incredibly long night and fallout the past day had brought. She noticed that her mother wasn't where she went to sleep and after looking around found her mother sitting on some rocks looking out to the sea. Jade made her way over and sat next to her mother.
"When everyone else heads north to regroup with our forces you and me need to stay behind" Arda said.
"Why" Jade asked.
"Koral, the guardian of Water is a mermaid and won't be able to meet up with us on the mainland."
Jade nodded. "How are you holding up?"
"What do you mean" her mother asked.
"Saje" Jade said, "His death-"
"He's not dead" Arda said.
Jade looked to see her mother gazing to the ocean with a determined intensity.
"Are you sure" Jade asked.
"Yeah" Arda said. "He's not dead- not yet."
Jade looked sideways at her mother, confusion visible on her face.
"In the city of Atlantis I saw something that helped me confirm a few things about the future" Arda explained. "Just how I knew you would return I know that Saje will as well. This is the other reason we can't head north with everyone else."
They sat together in silence for a while, the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks becoming somewhat hypnotic.
"We can't tell the others about Saje" Arda said. "It will lead to a group confidence that could lead to defeat. We are on the brink of a massive change in the world- what happens in the next few months will leave an impact far beyond our years. Destiny is calling, Jade, we need to answer the call and rise to the occasion."
