An Unexpected Visitor

I continued to scan the surrounding forest for any signs of life. Nothing. Oh well, may as well carry on with my life. The splash I create while jumping back into the water hits Amanda, the chief science officer of the colony.

"Hey! Watch it! I'm holding valuable equipment here." She exclaims, giving me a death glare.

"Sorry, sweet cheeks. Forgot you're too perfect for a little fun!" As I finish my teasing, I see a flash of light out of the corner of my eye, seeming to come from the mountain top. "Hey, what's that up there?" I ask pointing to the flashing ray of light.

"Not sure bud. Wanna go check 'er out?" Hank, our driver, asks as he leaves the Juggernaut.

"Yeah."

20:00 minutes later
"It was right over here" I whispered to the two as we snuck to the edge of the mountain.

The trees were noticeably shorter on top of this mountain than on the others. There were more shrubs and bushes near the waterfalls edge in comparison to the rest of the mountain top.

Me(Connor):"There was this sort of shining light like from a mirro-" I was cut off by a hand on my mouth and a blade at my neck.

Stranger:"Hi there, one move and the boy's jugular is gettin' jab'd."

"Fuck..." I mutter

"Who are you?" Michael questioned, not moving his eyes off the assailant.

Stranger: "None of your buggerin' business. Now, you tell me who you are and why you're here, and I may spare potty-mouth's life."

Amanda: "We were just taking a dip in the lake and he saw a flashing light up here, so we came to investigate."

Michael: "We're explorers from the local colony, a good distance away."

Me: "And you are?"

The stranger proceeds to remove his knife from beside my throat, pushing me lightly towards the others.

Stranger: "The name's Smith. Lewis Smith. I'm a hunter for another colony a good ways away. Oh, and uh, sorry about the whole "move and you're dead" thing. I figured you weren't supposed to be here."

As I turned to see "Lewis" for the first time, I noticed he was wearing a full forest camo suit and matching canvas hat. He was holding a hunting rifle with what appeared to be a modified scope.

Lewis: "Did you mention another colony?"
