Waking up in the middle of the night because your mother was stabbing you in your sleep was something I was accustomed to but it didn't make the reality less scary.
Logan lay next to me with his face sweating and he was murmuring.  He was having a nightmare again. Before he got to into it, I shook him. He sprang up and starred at me in bewilderment. He then buried his face in his hands and breathed out harshly.

"I don't think you should sleep next to me. This was a mistake."

"What?"

"Not the sex...just you sleeping here after we ..."

"I'll be fine. I know how to handle myself."

"Sure."

Shaking my head I swung my feet to the floor and sat at the edge of the bed. I covered my chest with the sheet and looked at the floor.

"My mother is mentally ill. We don't know what she has but when it's night she just freaks out and she tries to murder us. She stabbed me in munley when I was 17."

"Doesn't your fath-"

"My father doesn't want her to live in a mental institute.  We sleep mostly during the day, then we have to play guardian angel to my mother. Make sure she doesn't kill herself or anyone else."

"How'd you end up out here?"

"My best friend. She offered me her family cabin. About three miles from where my car crashed. I was on my way there when and animal jumped in front my car and I ended up in a ditch and then in the little thing on the road."

"Don't you have a phone?"

"I dropped it on my way over."

"You seem to be the clumsy type."

"I was just a little off track...that's  all."

"Sorry about your mom."

"Me too. What's your story?"

"I have no story."

"That's not what I saw when you were having that nightmare."

He kept silent behind me and I felt him shuffle back under the sheets. I turned around and he had his scarred back to me. Guess he didn't want to talk.

" Two years ago I was honorably discharged. I gave an order and a soldier disobeyed those orders. He in effect killed sixty innocent people and three of my men. He was dishonorably discharged. I couldn't go back because of my injuries and mentally I was fucked up.

"I'm sorry."

"You know I saw everything, the body parts flying and blood spraying. " he chuckled darkly.

"I'll go in the chair if you need space."

"Come back to bed. What's the point? Soon morning anyways."

I snuggled back in to the bed and watched at his back move as he breathed.
We both had a fucked up experience in life and we both are loners. Maybe we might need each other. With that thought I drifted off to sleep again.
