The first thing Luce does when we enter the house is tear down the banner we put up for mami and papi. We all enter the living room, Val sitting next to me. I am so proud of my baby sister, to go up there and try her best to save mami and papi even though the judge gave the order to send mami and papi away we still know we did our best to keep them here.
"Maybe we can appeal. We'll appeal." Milo tells us as he takes a sit.
"On what grounds? I mean, what argument can we make that wasn't already made?" Luce says.
"So, that's just it? They just get put on a bus?" Val says as she holds on to my hands.
"It's gonna be okay, Val." I assure her trying to calm her down.
"How is it gonna be okay? What are we supposed to do?" Val crys out to all of us. Just when I was about to tell Val how we'd manage Bey cuts me as he tells Val.
"We'll take care of each other, we keep the business running."
"Do you know how to run a restaurant, Bey? coz I don't." Luc tells him
"Even papi didn't manage so good." Vals tells us which makes spikes my interest. "What do you mean? Val?" I ask her calmly.
"We went through the books. There's barely enough payroll to cover next month, plus whatever we owe the lawyer." Bey explains.
"How much was that?" I ask Milo, I just hope we can pay her off first and deal with the rest later.
"How much money did you spend on the lawyer, Emilio?" Luce asks him now furious.
Emilio finally speaks out "Seven.... Thousand." Making us all look at him.
"What?" Bey said clearly shocked just like us that he spent so much.
"Milo thats a lot" I say to him trying to remain calm as I knew the others were clearly angry at him by now as he spent so much on the lawyer yet we still didn't win the case.
"We don't have anywhere near that! Bey, how much?" Val tells us all crying as she asks Beto.
"There's $3,100 in the checking account. Jesus! you spent $7,000?" Beto asks him still surprised he did that.
Emilio goes on how he wanted to help and give them every possible advantage and that he would've spent even more if he had to, to get mami and papi back. Beto and Luce both were arguing with Emilio because of the amount and I was trying to calm Val down.
"They're gonna split us up!" Val suddenly speaks still crying. "Hey, no, they're not. alright?" I try to tell Val as Beto comes next to Val.
"We won't let that happen. Right Luce?" Beto assures her as he asks Luc to reassure Val.
"Hey! no one is going to split us up. I'll sublet my apartment. Move back home, full time. I'll take care of things. Promise." Emilio finally tells Val.
"Yeah, maybe I could find a part time job during weekends so that we can get a little more income." I tell all of them specifically Emilio.
"Hey, I don't want you to work alright? you're already doing enough, I'll see what I can do." Milo tells you
Even though he did tell you not to work, you still wanted to and no one could change your mind.
Later that night
I was in my room studying when I heard some noise from Lucia's room. She must be back I thought to myself. Just then I heard Emilio shouting at someone and I quickly made my way down.
".... I'm responsible for the family now, and I'm gonna take that responsibility seriously...." I heard Milo say, I was really glad he said that. But it was cut short by Bey.
