For A While

You peek over the top of your book, eyes landing on the Doctor who sits at the end of the sofa in the library, reading his own book. He smirks. "You're staring again." Your gaze fixes itself back onto your book though it does not begin to read the words on the page, instead you find yourself eager to look back at the time lord who was still fixated to the pages of his hard back.

"I was not."

He hums, turns a page. "Really, what were you doing then?"

You shrug your shoulders and re-read the same line you had just read. "Clearly I was reading."

"Liar." Finally he turns to you, the smirk on his lips grows, taunting you. "You were staring at me, admit it."

"Never." You say as you dog ear your page, setting the book down as the Doctor returns to his own. The sofa creeks as you shuffle along it on your knees, stopping when they bump against his thigh. "Ok, I was staring but I can't help it, you're pretty." The Doctor chuckles and raises his arms, you climb onto his lap, wrapping your arms and legs around him, head nuzzling into his neck as he lowers his arms. He reads his book from over your shoulder, one off his hands release the paper, choosing to instead hold you closer.

A soft sigh escapes his lips as he places his book on the cushions. "You've been avoiding me until now." He says with a slight frown, his other arm encircles your waist. "Why?"

"I think you are confused, it's you that has been ignoring me. Since Clara has joined us on the Tardis, you haven't spoken more than two words to me, in fact this is the first time we have been alone."

The Doctor frowns, "Really." You nod against his shoulder, he presses a kiss to your head. "I didn't realise, if I did I-"

"I don't need an apology, Doc. I just need to sit here for a while." He smiles down at you bundled up in his arms, wondering how he ever managed to let a perfect little human like you slip his mind.
