"Can..."

An answering growl from the enormous golden brown wolf that was standing where the man had been just seconds before. I would have recognized that deep growl from outer space.

At the sound of my voice, the wolf turned and looked directly at me. I was pinned in place by the possessive look in those eyes. I knew deep inside, down where the essence of me began that this was Can. I knew him. I had seen him. He had been visiting my dreams for years. His transformation was shocking but at the same time as normal to me as the color of his hair.

Yigit stirred and the wolf's ears went up, his growling thundered over the enclosed space and made the walls tremble.

"Get out of here you stupid little prick," Osman shouted at Yigit.

"I know how wolves attack. He's just waiting for me to move to give chase," Yigit said between clenched teeth.

Osman turned to me. "He's operating purely on protective instinct right now and it's telling him you're in danger. You have to leave. I'll take her. Come on." He pointed to Ayhan who, I discovered in shock, was passed out on the ground.

He picked her up like she weighed no more than a feather, grabbed my hand and pulled me stumbling after him. I turned my head and saw Yigit jump to an impossible height. The wolf took him down with a powerful swipe, claws gleaming in the moonlight. Blood sprayed the walls.

"Oh my god, he's going to kill him," I screamed at Osman.

"Yigit isn't that easy to kill. Which is fortunate right now. There's something I never thought I'd say," he mumbled.

We got to the truck and he deposited Ayhan in the back seat.

"Can you drive?" he asked me and I nodded weakly. Speech was beyond me right now. He handed me keys.

"Take her home and then go back to the house. Get your scent as far away from here as possible. Phone?"

I shook my head and he muttered something about stubborn women. "Here's mine." He typed something and passed it to me. "Directions are set. Call Metin if you need help. I know you're not defenseless," he said to me. "If anyone comes after you, hit them with all you've got." He disappeared back into the alley.

I didn't take Ayhan to her house. It felt wrong to leave her there when she was unconscious. So I drove to Can's house, hands shaking and fighting the urge to turn around and go back. Leaving Can there went against everything in me. I was contemplating taking Ayhan to the hospital.

"Ugh, my head," Ayhan complained as she came to. "What happened?"

"I have a suspicion you know the answer to that question better than I do," I said drily peering at her through the rearview mirror. "I think you hit your head on the wall. Are you okay?"

She nodded.

"Where are we going?"

"Back to Can's house. For now." I still didn't think I'd move in with him but I was sort of homeless at the moment.

"It's for the best, Sanemsie. He is good to you, right?" She asked anxiously.

"Yes, he's wonderful," I sighed. But I don't get your change of heart. Not that long ago you were telling me to avoid him like the plague."

She looked away. "This is way over my pay grade. He will protect you now. I'm very tired," she muttered and closed her eyes. I blinked at her.

"You know about him?" I asked her.
